Right. They should have acknowledged it and promoted him. That would have pleased the Dems.

Yes, they did themselves no favors by hiding this.
Republicans came across just as sleazy.
But the original issue was that "Foley is gay and hitting on minors." All the people clamoring for tolerance shouldn't have cared. Frankly, it was "hate speech" by the mainstream media.

No it is better to do as the Republicans and hide it AND promote him, because of his doations to the party.

I got no problem letting the Rep's hang for hiding this, but my point was that the dems sat on this until election time, just in an attempt to win back the House. If it was really that big of a deal, they should have exposed him at the time they became aware of the sicko.

The political genius part of the timing was that in a heavily dominated Republican district, the Republicans could not replace Foley on the ballot. That meant the Republicans would have to rely on a write in campaign which historically has little to no chance even in districts that you dominate.
Both sides have used the October surprise to very good use on several occasions. I tip my hat to the Democrat planners who let loose with the Foley story and remind them that what comes around goes around so enjoy their time in power.

No, it's not. However, when Democrats start making an issue about Foley, when they not only kept Studds in office, but appointed him to higher positions, lauded him, and celebrated his service once he died, they need to sit down and STFU because they are in NO position to judge. Foley's gone. Studds stayed. Can't see the difference? 'Course not. You're a Democrat.
Just like Newtie shouldn't have hung his hat on Clinton's infidelity?
The fact is that a republican is the one that is wanting to have gay sex with a teenage boy and you and your ilk are still backpedaling. Your party was in power, NOT the dems. Get over it, YOUR side is the one that condoned this behavior. You can play the blame game all you want and think your side is as clean as a preachers sheets but at some point you have to look at the problems in your own party. Your sides lack of personal responsibility is partly the cause of your defeat in this last election. So you can STFU...

SouthGAEagle Wrote:Actually, they didn't have to write in Joe Negron's name.... a vote for Foley counted as a vote for Negron, although the Dems sued to prevent signs from being posted in the voting booths explaining that fact.
It did lead to a great slogan... "Punch Foley for Negron!" lol
They did have to write-in for the replacement for Tom DeLay.... which makes me ask, "Why do you nominate someone named 'Shelley Sekula-Gibbs' for a write-in slot???"
I know but it was essentially the same as trying to run a write in candidate only in this case even tougher in that you had to vote for Foley to vote for Negron.
Democrats knew what they were doing and it was smart.
