More Than a Link Is Missing. . .In Defense of the Faith

It actually covers some things that have been discussed today in the spin room.

Quote:As we get closer to the end of this present age, it is important to keep in mind the PURPOSE of the Tribulation Period is two-fold. The primary purpose is to fulfill God's promise of Israel's national redemption in the last days.

The secondary purpose of the Tribulation Period is to exact judgment against the world for its rejection of Christ. The Apostle Paul says that the whole world will come under 'strong delusion' and that the world will embrace the lie because they didn't 'love the truth' of the Gospel.

The problem with all of these type posts is it attempts to "Proof by Sermon", which is not a scientifically rigorous method of proof. Citing one article and drawing a conclusion isn't science.

The thing I don't understand is the assertion that all scientists have an agenda and that agenda is automatically anti-Christian. Scientists seeks to explain what is, and what isn't. That's all. No need to get defensive about them trying to show the truth, if indeed what you are supporting is the truth. That will all fall out in the end.

I didn't come from no Tiktaalik roseae.

The great thing about finding new species is that evolution deniers say that two new gaps have been created in the process. Too funny.[/url]

I'd like to believe that too, it's just not true in too many cases.

Read Philip Johnson's "Reason in the Balance" to get a bigger picture.

It was a pretty good article. The guy who thinks that Jesus walked on an ice floe needs to read CS Lewis' "Miracles". In fact, it's a must read for any purported academician, as well as fundamentalist Christians. One major point that Lewis makes is that people in Biblical times weren't gullible rubes. Moreover, if they didn't understand science, they wouldn't comment on miracles at all.

If you don't appreciate that the sun moves from east to west, then you won't consider it signficant if it suddenly travels west to east for 20 minutes.
Similarly, if you don't know how women get pregnant, then a virgin birth isn't worth recording.
It's very much because these people recognized that these were unnatural events that they specifically recorded them, and like us, did so with extra care.

I dont know how much I would rely on Paul. This is a guy who made no headway with his fellow Jews with his preaching so moved on to Gentiles. Paul says he did not know Jesus personally yet makes a reference to having seen him after the resurrection. He also said that more than 500 persons saw Jesus which is a claim not found in any of the Gospels.
Paul in a lot of ways is more impressive then Jesus especially with his miracles. In Acts 20:10 he is giving a sermon that I guess must of been boring because a young man falls to sleep and falls from a window to his death. Pauls stops talking long enough to restore the bored kid to life and then goes back to preaching and then has dinner with everybody.

I'm not sure that's the standard interpretation. 03-wink

Unfortunately, that does seem to be the unspoken theme among many Christians.

I even heard Alistair Begg preach that we had a model w/ Paul on how to present the gospel: through expository preaching.

Gee Alistair, and I thought we were called Christians. :(

Paul had training in the western (Greek) epistomology. That makes him more comfortable for westerners, and often easier to understand. Nevertheless, we are called to follow Christ, not Paul. Paul was obedient based on his calling and gifting. That doesn't mean imitate Paul, other than find out what our callings and giftings are, and use them as ambitiously as Paul.

I dunno, Jesus broght back people from the dead too.
