That's some platform they've got there.

I was working in Portland, OR back in 2004 and a girl came up to me and said, "Help stop GWB from being re-elected." I asked her, "Why isn't the statement help John Kerry get elected?" She just looked at me.

I was having breakfast a local restaurant this morning when I ran into an old high school friend. (anyone who knew me in HS is old now).

Anyway, I asked him what he was up to and he replied he was trying to Democrats elected. I invited to sit with with me and we had a very friendly discussion on several issues - global warming and related environment issues primarily. he thinks we all ought to get back to the wonderful happy life we all had before science started ruining the environment. I asked if he would mind not having airconditioning in his tepee, (he brought up the tepee) and that gave him pause - hadn't considered that. He said he coulldn't wait to get his first hydrogen car. I asked him where all the hydrogen to power the nation's fleet of vehicles would come from when we were 100% converted and he triumphantly said "water!". I then remarked that water is already short in some areas and getting more scarce. He hadn't thought of that either.

No problem. As he left, he told me that i should become a Democrat and be happy. I replied I would need a lobotomy first. We parted the same way we met - as friends, but friends who do not agree on things.

Anyhow, he would be a perfect candidate for one of those jobs, DT.

Some of the ideas he brought up are good, but he has to understand the limitations. I'd love for everyone to be driving hydrogen cars, but I realize that there are some major technical hurdles to overcome before it is practical and economical.

These are much like the discussions I had with seemingly smart people during the last presidential election.

Them: Bush is Stupid. I will not vote for him.

Me: Can you tell me why you think Bush is Stupid?

Them: Uhhh...Bush is Stupid.

Me: What do you like about Kerry?

Them: Uhhh...Bush is Stupid.

Me: You are a dentist and all you can give me as a reason to vote, or not to vote, for someone is that they are stupid.

Them: If you keep this up, I am going to go home.

Their Mother (my wifes Grandmother): Please don't talk about Politics.

Their Father (my wifes Grandfather): How could any child of mine vote for Kerry?

Whoa! I am thoroughly confused. He wants to go back to a time "before science started ruining the environment" AND he wants a hydrogen car? Who's going to develop that hydrogen car?

Because to some people the first statement is WAY more practical then the second one. lmfao

I certainly noticed in the last election people were voting against a candidate rather than for a candidate. I thought it was pretty strange.

Any more I vote for the candidate who I dislike the least... generally none of the presidential candidates are people I like... so maybe it is kind of a "voting against a candidate" thing?!?

Unfortunately, that's just a sign of the depths to which politics (on both sides of the aisle) has fallen to. It's no longer why you should elect someone, but why you shouldn't elect the other guy...which is exactly why the loudmouth clowns that dominate political talk have become so influential. Politics has become an arena for refined insult comics and not the type of people that should be moving the country forward.
