Sabean's at it again; trades for mike stanton
http://sportsline.com/mlb/story/9576141
wow, he traded a promising 19 year old pitcher for a guy who hasn't been gone in over 5 years. i'm speechless. i'm without speech. this is appalling! how does this guy still have a job? we're the only team who has no problem trading good young arms. this is effing ridiculous. incredible!
BTW, shea hillenbrand has had about 14 men on base in his combined AB's and not only has he not gotten an RBI, he hasn't even advanced a runner.

I don't feel like clicking the link. Who was the pitcher??
Shea couldn't have been worse than Lopez and Kearns in there Nationals debut series. They combined to leave something like 40 men on base.

I don't know what Sabean's doing either. Then again, we've seen a few teams fall into this trap this year. Trading away prospects with good potential for three-month rentals for a team that has no shot of going anywhere in the playoffs, even if they get there.
Personally, with so many desperate teams, I wouldn't mind if the Braves gave up on the season and started selling off parts. I don't give two sh*ts about winning the Wild Card at this point, because this team would be so grossly overmatched in the playoffs. But it's exciting to think what we could get for a few washed-up veterans.

Well, just as I say that, the Braves trade Betemit for Danys Baez. Erghh...
Well, at least we got them to throw in Willy Aybar, who will be a steal.

I never thought Abyar was that great. He's a below average defender with very little pop in his bat.

Aybar's a good defender from what I've seen, although I admit that's not much.
What I do like about him is that he's disciplined and draws a lot of walks.
But overall, I don't like this trade. I hate giving up Betemit.

I think the Braves need to part with Chipper more than Betemit. They should dump him for a few quality prospects in the offseason.

I would have agreed before we traded Betemit.

You make it sound like thats a bad thing. He can play every position in the infield and has a good bat.

yeah, but the braves need a lot more than some bench player. for instance, the giants are made up of nothing but utility players. i'm just saying, parting with a utility IF isn't exactly a sad thing.

Calling Betemit "some bench player" is really underselling him. He's been one of our most valuable players this year. Whenever he's been in the starting lineup he's mashed. Heck, his numbers are solid for an everyday player and he's probably only started half of our games.
Betemit has star written all over him. Just another bad trade in a string of them by JS.

I lifted this from another site..
Quote:He's actually 18 months younger-- 24 years old. He went through reverse age-gate about 6 years ago, and it was never fixed in the media guide. It was fixed on sites like baseball-reference.
An article from 2000:
http://savannahnow.com/stories/022900/SP...otes.shtml
All this has happened because the Braves signed Betemit when he was 14 1/2 years old, about 18 months before he was eligible to be signed on his 16th birthday. Last week Major League Baseball fined the club $100,000 and prohibited it from scouting and signing Dominican players for sixth months for illegally signing Betemit.
That really makes Betemit's ceiling a lot higher.

wow, i take back what i said about him. i always thought he had peaked. 24 and 29 are two very different numbers.

Betemit went yard off of Bronson Arroyo last night, 3 run jack.
