Buoyed by the presence of his many friends, family, teammates and coaches, the Georgia Tech
point guard outclassed the field in winning the 3-point shooting competition of Thursday night's 14th
Annual Slam Dunk and Three-Point Championships.

Akins capped off a brilliant performance on the night by beating the women's top gunner, Oregon
State's Felicia Ragland, to win the Battle of the Sexes finale, 20-13.

"I just really appreciate everybody coming out and supporting me," said Akins, who will also be
playing in tonight's NABC All-Star game at Tech against the Harlem Globetrotters. "That meant a lot
to
me. I just didn't want to let anybody down. I'm just so happy right now."

Akins averaged 17 baskets over the night's three rounds, his 17 in the final one better than that of
Arkansas' Jannero Pargo.

"I was surprised because I started a little slow," Akins said. "I thought [Gonzaga All-American Dan]
Dickau and [Cincinnati All-American Steve] Logan were going to get me in the first round. But once
they didn't, I thought I had a chance. I started feeling pretty good."

How 'bout that?!? Way to go Tony, making Tech fans proud again <img border="0" alt="[bow]" title="" src="graemlins/bow.gif" />
