The University of Virginia men's golf "B" team finished seventh of 14 teams at Monday's Rehoboth Beach Invitational at the Kings Creek Country Club.
Rutgers captured the team title of the one-day, 36-hole event with a 602 (+26). Iona followed by one stroke with a 603 (+27), while American and Columbia tied for third with a 607 (+31). The Cavaliers carded a 613 (+37).
Individually, host George Washington's Thomas Blackvoort was the sole player to record an under-par day, carding a three-under 141 for medalist honors. Rutgers' Brent Pittman was second with an even 144.
UVa junior Thomas Lee (Guttenburg, N.J.) tied for sixth with a 146 (+2). Freshman Scott McMahon (Austin, Texas) tied for 22nd with a 154 (+10), while senior Shivin Kwatra (New Delhi, India) finished 29th with a 156 (+12). Sophomore Eli Barnes (Bristol, Conn.) was 31st with a 157, while senior Shep Nowlin (Lynchburg, Va.) finished 59th with a 164.
Virginia returns to varsity action at the 2002 ACC Championship in Badin Lake, N.C., on April 19-21.
