This thread explains it.

Bush is intentionally pissing off most of the world ....as a budget-balancing strategy.
So you would rather try and be friendly with the French?

As if Bush would ever talk about ending hunger in America.
Your right SF, Bush would talk like that about the time Kerry would give up some of those millions to try and solve it. :D

Thankless or not, we have been given the job of "policemen of the world" since 1916. Thankless or not, we have a responsibility to take the job since it also is part of our national security. The world can hate us all they want, but if we aren't actively working against those that want our destruction, then we might as well just go ahead and roll over and die.

You cannot hide in the corner and hope everyone will leave us alone. It doesn't work. Its more dangerous to sit around and do nothing, than to actively work against something evil.

No it isn't.

Speak softly and carry a big stick. That's what Theodore Roosevelt said.

We have the big stick part down. But we are also shrill is all get out.

I am horrified with the knowledge that more and more of the world's citizens fear us.

They shouldn't fear us. They should respect us. They should see us as a force for good. And... they don't.

I am perfectly comfortable with the world understanding that if we are attacked, we will respond with deadly, lethal force and bring down regimes if necessary.

But our adventure in Iraq accomplished nothing on that score. Iraq never attacked us.

And since they didn't: More of the world's citizens fear us.

That's reality. That's the world John Kerry will have to try to straighten out when (if we are lucky) he is elected president.

It's so cute how Republicans talk about Kerry being rich as if Bush isn't.

It might be more correct to say that we assumed it.

Also, to take the analogy further, every cop has a chief, and every chief has a mayor to answer to.

A better analogy might be to describe the United States as the world's vigilante.

Sometimes, vigilantes are a force for justice.

Sometimes, they aren't.

We police the world as if we have no mayor to answer to, no training manual and no law books to guide us.

You should have watched C-SPAN two nights ago. This Republican Congressman from Georgia sure was. He was going *off* on Kerry for being rich.

Simply because Kerry is a hypocrite. Again, Conservatives don't brand wealthy people as "evil".

Thats basically what I said, only worded differently. Feared for retaliation, or our response capabilities respected. Same thing.

I thought wealth wasn't to be taxed. If it is, he'd be taxing himself. I see that as much more admirable than getting into office and giving yourself a tax break.

Wealth ISN'T taxed. His tax plans screw over people's income. He really isn't concerned with an income if he and his wife are worth almost a billion dollars, now is he? The only thing taxed on that is the interest he and his wife make on that money. He's more concerned with power and prestige. Not at MY effin' expense. Noble? My ***.

One party wants to take money that someone else earned and give it in the form of handouts in exchange for votes. The other wants to allow the people that earned it to keep it. I'll let you figure out which is which.

Do you have a direct quote.

Does he say "evil?"
