...gets my vote for most annoying poster this week. While he has posted some relevant sports information, I was shocked that someone who claims to be a sportswriter for his college paper would flood the board with old, outdated articles. New posters are NOT going to be encouraged or impressed with 3-6 month old articles being posted over the past week. The NCAAbbs will quickly get the reputation of a loser board if this is allowed to continue.

Examples of old "news" (IOW, so old that it just ain't newsworthy anymore):

NC State: article from 11/2001 <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />
Penn State: article from 2/2002 (about the death of a track athlete no less <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="mad-flaming.gif" /> )
Boston College: article from 5/2002
East Carolina: article from 5/31/2002
South Florida: article from 5/30/2002
Rice: article from 4/22/2002
San Diego State: article from 6/1/2002
Western Kentucky: article from 6/18/2002

Is anyone else bothered by this?

I disagree. I think that any topic on those lame forums would be positive, if relevant to the team.

Let him post the way he wants, until he does something wrong. I don't think this is wrong.

I'm torn, because I don't want to tell someone how to post if they aren't breaking any rules. And, certainly CougarReggie isn't....

But, I have to agree that many of his posts add nothing at all. I just got off the <a href="http://www.ncaabbs.com/forums/confusa/boards/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum;f=9" target="_blank">Houston forum</a>, which is nothing but one-post threads of CougarReggie links to old stories. The chances of someone posting on basically all of those threads is nil.

I do think it's great that he's giving attention to some of these dead forums, but I would be much more pleased with a link to an article and them some discussion on the link. Otherwise, what more are we adding here than ESPN.com or the official athletic sites of each school (the main sources for all these links) could give?

This is a discussion forum -- the key word being "discussion." Discussion doesn't mean posting stories from 2001 that nobody is going to talk about.

I think this goes back to the age-old debate about the virtue of post count. It has both positive and negative aspects to it. One of the negatives is that people are going to post nonsense to jack up their post count. Get rid of post count, and much of the nonsense goes away....

Excellent points, JD.

Right now at 11:29 pm, it is extremely sad that the resident menace, CougarReggie, now has his name on the front page of every forum on the ACC & SEC pages, after making innocuous posts one after the other, purely for the "satisfaction" of seeing his name clog up the pages.

And isn't it sad that he hasn't posted any breaking news on HIS OWN board in 2 days? Inquiring minds want to know why no one is putting a halt to this mockery of our boards.

I dont like the outdated news articles that he posts, but he does usually have some intelligent things to say when he posts things other than links, and I dont have a problem with that.

But it is true that the post count is what causes so many of the problems on this board system.

I'm very intrigued with all this... If i were poster on the BBS for longer, I don't know what would make me more upset: The fact that many posts by the dude are PPPP, or that his count is so high after so few days? Seems to me like this can be another justification for removing the number of posts someone made.

My opinion is irrelevant, but it is annoying to see this name so much, and with so little of it containing substantial (and up to date) information. But then again, my friends don't call me a misanthrope for nothing...

Wasn't there a chat not too long ago in which everyone agreed to be more tolerant of other people's posts?

There are many topics posted on these boards that I would consider "wastes of bandwidth", so I just skip over them. No big deal.

And has anyone thought that visitors to the NCAAbbs may be a little taken aback by the fact that it appears that this board only has one poster and mistakenly think that this is the CougarReggiebbs instead and go elsewhere? Allow me to paraphrase something I recall from a politics class in college, the rights of the individual should not supplant the rights of the many.

And if anyone thinks I'm on a one-person crusade here, check out comments made on the <a href="http://www.ncaabbs.com/forums/sec/boards/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=6;t=000043" target="_blank">SEC board</a> & <a href="http://www.ncaabbs.com/forums/mac/boards/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=14;t=000092" target="_blank">MAC board</a>(to name just a few I found in a very quick glance). His postfests have not gone unnoticed on the other BBS forums.

BTW, People's Champion, never think that your opinion is irrelevant...

Somebody please tell me how the ignore button works. I have tried using it within the past day, with minimal success....

GTS: When somebody BTTTs old articles and covers their name on the front of every conference board, it is impossible to "ignore" them.

Does that mean starting from that point, or in general? I tried that function last night just to see how it would work. Needless to say, all forums were still littered with CougarReggie posts....

First of all, Lucy is definitely a she....

I think the problem that some people have is that it's impossible to go to a board and ignore your posts when you have the top post on every forum. There's no way to avoid it.

And, GTS -- I'm trying the ignore experiment right now... and I can obviously still see CR's posts. So, that doesn't seem to be a feasible option for those that want to ignore them....

To continue with this discussion, Mr. "I'm Dense & Just Can't Get The Point", every board & every thread does not need a post by you. As has been mentioned here, and on other forums, your posts have been cluttering up the boards & moving more current discussions out of the main view of regular posters.

GTS: The ignore feature works for ignoring PMs from posters, not for ignoring posts on threads.

Why can't we just pull the plug on this guy and let real discussions continue in peace?
