M, you have done well in presenting you case thus far.Other than the bit about being a foreign girl who learned to speak English watching Carolina games. I can handle reading someone who does not like the way things are, if it is done well. Flaming, and you have done quite a bit of it here*, will not be tolerated. Continue the good fight without the flaming, and you are welcome here.

*Everybody drinks. Big deal. We need a coach. Our program is disintegrating. I would much rather have the biggest drunk in town if he could coach than what we've got.

This Malaysak1982 person is ridiculous and makes completetly stupid comments. This is obviously not a Tarheel but I pure flamer. I am planning on using a strategy called "ignoring" towards her.

Props to IC for the info

No question, the players are the most important people in the program," Doherty told the N&O. "They're the ones that play the game, they're the ones that we have to place the most value in and treat them properly. If, at times, they felt like that hasn't been the case, I want to know about it -- and fix it.
"To me, these kinds of things really make you look inside and say, 'OK, what am I doing right? What am I doing wrong?' I'm not going to sit here and say everything's perfect. I make mistakes. I'm going to make mistakes in the future.

"But I ask my players not to make the same mistake twice. I've got to do the same thing. As long as I don't do that, we'll grow from all of this."

Looks like Mr D has got the smarts it takes.....

The Bottom Line:

The problem is not with the kids who left, rather it is with the kids who stayed. Jawad Williams was going to be the supposed upperclassman of next years team, and as such he is supposed to lend stability to the program, that makes his comments even more disturbing. Next years tarheel team is going to be led by three freshman and three sophomores, and the three sophomores all considered transferring, and demanded that Doherty change his style. That my freinds is a recipe for a catastrophic meltdown."

I agree it is a recipe for a meltdown. The good thing about the situation is they are dealing with it now. Dealing with it in the middle of the season next year would lead to the melt down. We shall see what we shall see....

Exactly Rick; I am glad the players and the coaches spoke and had detailed discussions. This will only create a better realtionship and understanding in the future between them. Thank goodness it is happening now, because this is a time when these conversations between the players and the coaches may end up being the beginning of improvement in our program.

Exactly -- the players and coaches needed to get on the same page. We could not afford to go into next season with both sides harboring ill feelings and being defensive.

M1982: Dom Capers was NFL coach of the year because he deserved it. He was always a good coach, but his team kept getting older and older without getting enough young blood. He was dealing with the process of purging the older veterans around the time he got fired.

You're not a bad coach just because you have a bad season. If so, Dean Smith never would have coached at North Carolina. Coach K never would have coached at Duke.

I agree with you that coaching is a lot of "what have you done for me lately." But, it's not so blind to the future that people will get fired when the future looks fairly bright (Herb Sendek is a great example of this).

Give Doh a chance. You have all spring, summer, and fall to dump on Doherty. But, guess what -- he's not going anywhere. If next season starts going downhill, then maybe it's time to start the music again. But, right now it just sounds like a broken record to me....
