Quote:Salaam, a Lebanese Shi'ite Muslim, said he was unprepared for the hostility of some Iraqis to volunteers like himself.
"I went there to be a martyr, not to be murdered by a brother," he told Reuters. "We went there to help them liberate their country, and all they did was shoot us in the back."
<a href='http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=focusIraqNews&storyID=2534147' target='_blank'>"Hurt and Disillusioned, some Arab fighters go home"</a>
Salaam was unprepared due in part to selective media coverage and agenda-driven propaganda. IMO, some of the blood of these "volunteers" will be on the hands of Al Jazeera and other garden variety regional media outlets in the Middle East. Very few, if any, are showing scenes of celebration and citizens shouting No More Saddam! through the streets of Baghdad, the capital, no less. Many are given the impression that the populace loves Saddam and would like nothing more than to see a bunch of jihadists swarming across the borders. Regardless of whether you are anti-war, pro-war, or somewhere in between, by encouraging a flood of fighters into a battlefield under the false pretenses that the citizens actually want your direct involvement is an invitation of more death and destruction.

I don't doubt that, on the whole, people in Baghdad are pretty happy right now.
I'm a little skeptical of this particular sign however. I mean, "wanker?" Your average Iraqi knows what this means?
My guess: A British serviceman spraypainted that banner.
It's just a guess, though.

Thought the same, mate. Could be bollocks. A few good blokes prolly wrote the bloody sign, but the chaps holding them may agree with its message and carry the sign through the centre of town.
Cheers.

It's possible. It's also possible they have no idea what it means, or don't realize.
Hard to know.
