I personally think this was a very big, very productive step in civil rights. I was expecting Scalia and Sexual Harrassment Man to dissent, but I was hoping Rehnquist would have gone with the majority on this one.
Next step is the legal recognition of gay marriage (or "civil union").

Great day for civil rights in this country, I know that homosexuality would be tough thing to prosecute when behind closed doors between consenting adults, but even having the laws on the books was wrong.
Same sex marriages are now on the horizon, and that will bring the end of gay discrimination, at least as far as laws are concerned.

I saw a gallop poll and it was pretty scary when the result was that only 60% basically approved of the court's decision

I'm glad to hear that -- whether or not someone is conservative or liberal, the government making laws about sex between two consenting adults is just plain wrong.
