Tar Heels receiver Bosley Allen is considering a transfer to Sam Houston State or Valdosta State.

CHAPEL HILL - North Carolina senior receiver Bosley Allen, who caught 79 passes but was involved in a number of off-field incidents during the past two seasons, is expected to transfer to a Division I-AA school for the 2002 season.

A UNC spokesman would not confirm it Tuesday, nor would coach John Bunting through the spokesman, but numerous sources inside and outside the program said Allen is looking into transfer options.

Allen, who could not be reached for comment, is considering Sam Houston State and Valdosta State, but will stay in Chapel Hill to get his degree this summer, according to one of his best friends at UNC, NFL-bound receiver Kory Bailey.

If he winds up at Sam Houston State, Allen might find himself on the receiving end of another former Tar Heel. Quarterback Luke Huard, who is transferring there, said he is trying to talk Allen into joining him.

Wide Receiver Bosley Allen Dismissed From Football Team
Allen will transfer to a Division I-AA school.

May 15, 2002

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- University of North Carolina wide receiver Bosley Allen will transfer to a Division I-AA school after completing summer school classes in Chapel Hill. Allen was dismissed from the football team on Wednesday for violating team rules.

"I'm disappointed Bosley will not be a part of our program next season, but we have rules that every player must follow," said head coach John Bunting. "He was in the program for four years and I'm pleased that he intends to graduate from UNC. I will do whatever I can to help him go to the school he wants to attend. I wish him the best in the future."

A rising senior from Bradenton, Fla., Allen started 10 games last season and was third on the team with 39 catches for 562 yards and four touchdowns.

This is bad news for Tar Heel football, but we will move on from it, and I have faith in our coaches and team that we will still be successful!
