Nah, let them be later rounds. It will make them feel important.
But, here's what folks don't realize...you you get to keep the other bowls!
A playoff would be the best of both worlds: here's why.
NYD is traditionally filled w/ college football. You can't take that away, but w/ a playoff, there would be only 1 game scheduled that day (the championship).
SO...you schedule 3 lower-tier bowls for that day. That way, folks get their football fill, AND, it's a great warm-up for the big game. Kind of like a warm up band, or warm up comedians, BUT, far better than a "Super Bowl pregame show.":snore:
And, you can schedule some of these bowls for NYE (2 bowls), Christmas (2 bowls), and maybe Christmas Eve (1 bowl).
W/ a 16-team playoff you get 15 games...and w/ an additional 8 bowls you get 23 post-season games, with 32 playing in the post season. Those are numbers that should make everyone happy. Not too many, not too few.
