Here is a headline on the drudge report....no linked story yet..

Quote:AIR AMERICA 'BOUNCES CHECK'; LIBERAL RADIO NET TAKEN OFF AIR IN LOS ANGELES, CHICAGO AFTER ONLY TWO WEEKS

After just two weeks on the air, Air America Radio, the fledgling liberal talk-radio network featuring Al Franken and Janeane Garofalo, appears to have encountered serious cash-flow problems.

The CHICAGO TRIBUNE is developing a story, insiders tell DRUDGE, on how the network was pulled off the air this morning in Chicago and Los Angeles, the network's second- and third-largest markets, because, the owner of both stations said, the network bounced a check and owes him more than $1 million! A charge the network strongly denies... Developing...

Good. How appropriate that their financial bankruptcy should equal their moral and intellectual bankruptcy.

How arrogant is it for the dims to name their network Air America? Do they think they own all the thoughts of the American People? Should be named Idiots on the Air, or Rush is kickin our A$$ network.

I hope Rush gets to write a new book: "Al Franken is a Big Fat Hasbeen, Who Noboby Listens to, and Who Just Lost a Couple Million Dollars."

I am on record for being in favor of Air America...because I knew it would be a bust and cost these factions a ton of dough.

But 2 weeks?! That would exceed my expectations.

The mainstream public does not want to hear this stuff. Jeanine Garfolo? A mid-level comic at best. Sure, she can be funny...but Howdy Doody made kids laugh for years...did anyone ask him about complex issues?

Al Frankin? When your biggest claim to fame is 90 seconds in "Trading Places", what makes you think you have the mental capacity to analyze complex issues and provide intelligent, workable strategies?
Americans love their entertainment, that's for sure. But, a surprising majority know they don't want Bozo the Clown occupying high offices. (Actually, that's why we have Canada.)

Hilarious. The idea that a left-wing radio station spent far more than they had is funny and a microcosm of their entire ideology. (although Bush has done much the same over the past 3.5 years).

Alas, I do admit that I'll be disappointed if the station does indeed fold up so soon. It does provide an alternative viewpoint and provides me with commentary and critique. 03-wink

JBR, is that germane to the thread? What think you of AirAmerica's sudden demise? Could lack of listenership have something to do with? Think that might be?

Two sides to every story -- which is often two more than Drudge manages to get.

Quoting from the Knight-Ridder story, which I assume will appear in tommorrow's Chicago Tribune:

Air America Chairman Evan Cohen called the allegations an "outright lie."

...

The network's executive vice president and general counsel, David Goodfriend, appeared on Air America's "The Randi Rhodes Show" to accuse Liu of essentially stealing from Air America by re-selling airtime on KBLA that the network had already purchased to third parties.

According to Goodfriend, the dispute centers on the Los Angeles station during the period after Air America had begun leasing airtime in early February, but before the network actually launched in late March. During those months, he charged, KBLA was broadcasting Spanish-language programming provided by Multicultural.

Goodfriend said he learned last week that Liu and Multicultural had been "double-dipping," selling that same airtime to others. As a result, he said, the network declined to make scheduled payments for KBLA unless Multicultural agreed to credit Air America for the extra money Multicultural made. Air America did not bounce any checks, he said.

"They sent us an e-mail asking us to immediately restore it and go back to the negotiating table," Liu said. "But there's nothing to negotiate - they owe us the money." Liu did not return follow-up calls seeking a response to Air America's allegations.

I take it you didn't know? Howdy grew up, changed his name to Rush, and got his own show. :D

Seriously, I don't waste my time listening to Left or Right radio. I prefer the honest and unbias info found on NPR. Besdes, propaganda gives me gas and the Surgeon General says it causes osteoporosis. 03-wink

So, this is basically the thread where neo-cons gather around the water cooler and trade digits for tonights' oral sex?

High five, neo-con nation! Wrong, as usual. And why is it so important that left-wing radio fail? Would that make you feel like you're somehow on the winning team?

Nothing like a little irrational jingoism to make that coffee break just a little brighter, eh?

I wouldn't know. I don't listen to him. I have in the past and I have never said he WASN'T biased. On his TV program, the program itself isn't biased because he has his counterpart. I will say this though, he lets ALL people come onto his radio show. My contention was that NPR is FAR from unbiased. If you say that, that's essentially like me saying Rush isn't biased and you deduct that JUST because YOU agree with it. Very, very shallow thinking.

Not at all. There is a more liberal slant to NPR, but it is far from having an agenda. They give more in-depth coverage than most news outlets. That alone is enough to make neo-cons hate it. Any info they don't control pisses them off. Rush lies, which can be proven...prove the same about NPR or you have no point.
