Before we get to the list, just what is "Classical Rock". My wife kept asking me this as I worked on the list.
You musical types can talk about the use of guitar, the merger of R&B and C&W, and 4/4 time. But, it's still a tough question.
I know the songs from heavy rotation on several stations, but why do some artists get considered for "Classic Rock" and others ignored?
When is the music too "hard"? Why do some stations air Whitesnake(who kicks *****) and others (like my current one) ignore them? What about Guns n Roses? Well, in deferring to the majority I left GnR off, but next list I'm gonna give them credit where credit is due.
Similarly what's "alternative"? Weren't the Beatles alternative? What about the Talking Heads. Again, this year I tried to stick w/ the accepted format, but when the Violent Femmes are finally considered "Classical" you better believe they'll make this list...with a bullet!
And worst of all, what draws the line between "Rock" and "Pop"? If you're talking about Canadian bands, you gotta remember Loverboy. Another deserving band that will make the revised list. (See ya' Heart!)
So, let the games begin:
460 In the City - The Eagles
459 Somewhere Down the Crazy River - Robbie Robertson <- Forgotten singer from The Band. Good little tune that is long forgotten.
458 All You Need is Love - Beatles
457 Break on Through - The Doors
456 Ashes to Ashes - David Bowie <- What! Can the follow up be better than the original? We all knew Major Tom's a junkie.
455 Urgent - Foreigner
454 Find the Cost of Freedom - C,S,N &Y
453 Oye Como Va - Santana
452 Cover Me - Bruce Springsteen <- The Boss will probably lose this slot come next year.
451 Who Wants to Live Forever - Queen <- You do Freddie. And you always will!
450 Tush - ZZ Top
449 Life is Just a Fantasy - Aldo Nova
448 Do Do Do Do, Da Da Da Da - Police
447 Dream On - Aerosmith
446 Dandelion - Rolling Stones <- The Stones try to get Psychedelic
445 People are Strange - The Doors
444 Crosstown Traffic - Jimi Hendrix
443 Lovely Rita - Beatles
442 Dance the Night Away - Van Halen
441 Dancing Days - Led Zeppelin
So we dance our way out of the 440's. Those were some strong perfomances...and it only gets better!
