Some stats for numbers freaks:

Number of "different" artists- 141. But some of those are of course soloists from popular bands (eg John Lennon/Beatles).

Number of "different" artists in Top 100- 56

Number of countries represented- (Counting the entire UK as one country)- 6

Most entries from one band- 33 (you figure who)

Most entries from one band in Top 100- 7 (3 tied at 6)

Most entries from one band in Top 10- 2 (2-WAY TIE! You ain't gonna guess both on your first try)

Earliest recording date for an entry- 1957! (So much for the 1964 debut of the Beatles.)

So on with the countdown:

440 Mellow Yellow Donovan <- Quite nicely. Way underplayed.
439 JeanGenie - David Bowie <- Is it just me or is this the riff from "I'm a Man"?
438 You've Got to Stand for Something - John Mellencamp <- Making a respectable showing
437 Glory Days - Bruce Springsteen <- Folks like this tune, but not one of my favorites
436 Rock Me Tonight - Billy Squier <- Great tune. Look it up.
435 Gimme All Your Lovin - ZZ Top
434 Hippie Hippie Shake - Beatles
433 Ruby Tuesday - Rolling Stones
432 Goin' Mobile - The Who
431 Rock and Roll Heart - Eric Clapton
430 Fortunate Son - CCR <- For the record, no song was listed twice.
429 Misissippi Moon - Doobie Brothers
428 Since Your Gone - The Cars
427 It Can Happen - Yes
426 Chain Gang - The Pretenders
425 Tambourine Man - The Byrds
424 American Band - Grand Funk Railroad< We'll help you party down.
423 On the Loose - Saga
422 I'm no Angel - Greg Allman
421 Heartbreaker - Rolling Stones

Our hears aren't broken with 420 songs left! More good stuff to come!

Anything from Yes ahead of "Wheel In The Sky" is amusing.

440 is nice, and 430 is under-rated.

Thanks for catching this. Guess my QC was lacking (although I did catch a similar error.) I'll try to find another Aldo Nova song and update appropriately.

Beatles???

This song was recorded and made a hit both in the US and England by a Holland (I think) group called The Swingin' Bluejeans. I kid you not.
The Beatles covered it live, but did not write it. Do they even have a studio version?
Rumor has it they went on to become a more popular group than the Swingin Bluejeans, but I can't confirm this.
