Esche likely to miss World Cup due to hip surgery
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Robert Esche will have surgery on his hip next week and spend the next few months recovering, likely preventing him from playing for Team USA in the World Cup of Hockey.
Team physician Dr. Peter DeLuca said Friday that Esche was having hip problems all year and an exam this week found a tear of the labrum in his left hip. He is scheduled for surgery Tuesday in Pittsburgh.
"The total rehabilitation recovery time is in the order of three to four months, so he's probably not going to be able to play in the World Cup," DeLuca said. He said the surgery is unlikely to prevent him from being ready for training camp next season.
Esche was on the 26-player roster announced last week by USA Hockey to defend Team USA's championship in the World Cup

Ugh. Goaltending. Hard to find. You go to Canada and hit a tree and a goalie will fall out, but not in America.

DiPietro isn't a terrible goalie, he played well this season and improved his numbers, but I don't know about Conklin. Also, we've got a lot of talent at the blue line with the likes of Leetch and Hatcher with a solid group of tough forwards like Roenick and Weight. Losing Esche hurts but it doesn't completely destroy our chances.

I never said we didnt have a chance but losing Esche hurts us and hurts us bad
Conklin and DiPietro are nothing compared to Esche. Conklin didnt even make the playoffs and DiPietro got eliminated in 5 games.
Esche played unbelieveable through out the playoffs. Losing Esche doesnt cut our chances of winning a Gold Medal but its going to make it a hell of a lot tougher
