Explain the "arrogance" for me

It would help if one could read the whole article or op-ed column without having to pay for the service.

Could you cut and paste, Oddball?

You don't have to subscribe. Find the link that says "free day pass", watch a short ad...usually from GE or Powell Books, and you can read anything you want.

Or you could just Copy and Paste... More people would read it if you did it that way

If you want to read it, read it. I don't intend to violate copyright laws or cause GTS to be a party to copyright violations due to your laziness.

You can't figure out how to click a link, but I'm stupid for correctly pointing out that what you're suggesting has the potential to get this site into trouble?

Looks like you came by your beliefs honestly.

And my posting their article in its entirety gets people to their site how???

Your posts get more mind-boggling with every character you type.

Okay, I get that somehow that makes sense to you.

Once again, you don't have to sign up for a thing at Salon. Click a link. Watch a 30 second ad. The rest of the day every word of content is free.

Copying and pasting full articles without permission from the author or publication is illegal. While I've never been a stickler for rules, I do try to never do things that are a) blatently stupid that can get me in trouble, and b) get others in trouble for my actions. Fulfilling your repeated, silly and very lazy request could do both.

UC Bearcats, I know you were trying to get-my-goat, or rile me up with your statement, but actually and to set the record straight, I did not want to go through a thousand log-in pages to read the article when the one posting it can simply cut and paste it in a post, rather than placing a link in the post-box.

A link saves space, but is cumbersome for those like me who are not members of that host organization. I'd like to read the article.

And, I do not limit the perspectives of information that I seek out. I read and watch Republican cheer-leading, as in Fox and the Weekly Standard. I also read and watch decidedly liberal hogwash as in the Economist and CNN.

To be well-rounded, I back up most information I seek out with exactly what the government is saying. I do this by logging onto dot-gov. sites and tuning into C-SPAN daily. I also go to my local library to retrieve gov. documents not available on the internet.

I do this because I consider it my American duty to participate in the exchange of information provided to me by the media and the government. I also do it to see what the media has left out. Since I work for the media and leave things out of what I write, I'm well aware that the media makes omissions.

As long as the author and host site gets credit, I don't see how the copywrite is violated by copying and pasting.

Any lawyers here who might be able to clarify, please step forward.

Otherwise, it is cumbersome to watch adds, have them mail you a log-in, or go from screen to screen to screen to read something. I'd rather click on the link and read what you wanted us to read, or if that site has a log in requirement, please copy and paste.

UC is just being ridiculous. He's trolling.

They don't require a password. Once you watch the ad you're in.

As for copying and pasting articles, according to articles I have read (I am a Web developer) this is a no-no. According to the law school graduate who is currently studying for the bar that I cohabitate with, it is a legal grey area.

Either way, if anyone would like to read the article they can click and get there with a minimum of effort. If it is too much effort, don't click.

If you do not put the article infront of most people...they are not going to go out of their way watch and ad then read most if not all of the article

And you are over reacting...If you do somehow get in trouble is all they will ask you to do is remove it...The police are not going to come and pick you up...The FBI is not going to start and investigation...There is more to worry about than copy and pasting stuff
