Not to pat myself too hard on the back, but....
Without Billups, the Pistons really struggled offensively. Their D kept the Lakers down, and I don't think the time off helped 'em. But again, I don't like putting my eggs in Chauncey Billups' basket. He's a tough matchup for the Lakers, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Kobe play him more in Game 2.

Billups was the star in the playoffs last year and he averaged over 20 ppg during the season this year. He hasn't shot well in the playoffs, but he hasn't had to step up until now except for in the New Jersey series which he did when needed.
If Kobe switches to defend Billups then that frees up Hamilton. Kobe defended Hamilton in game 1 and he is the only guy on the Lakers that can play good defense.
You are also forgetting Rasheed Wallace who scored 14 points, despite not playing most of the 1st half.
I have to keep telling you that Detroit's offense is better than they were in the Indiana series. The Pacers play great defense, and you should know that.

Duh!, they have three great defenders! Ron, Jermaine and Jaamal.

Did you watch that series? Jamaal played the entire postseason with three injuries to the same leg. Jermaine got hurt during the series, and Artest had a bad matchup with Hamilton - he's a great one on one defender, but not a good chaser, and that's what you need against Rip. Also, we had to effectively bench our best big defender, Jeff Foster (surprisingly good footwork and movement), because he doesn't hit outside shots well and was a liability on the offensive end against the Pistons' D.
The Pacers are a good defensive team. I don't think the Lakers stink on D. I just don't think they played with any sense of urgency in game 1, and I fully expected Detroit would and will continue to. I suspect the Lakers will wake up and bring it.
