It was bound to happen sooner or later. I think he would be better suited for a corner OF spot, 1B or DH. He could still have a productive career in the American League.

this bum should just give up. There are only two reasons for someone getting injured this much:
1) Not getting in shape
2) Being on steroids

Just amazing. So much potential, wasted.

I haven't seen any articles linking him to steroids...but who knows? Maybe he can fly out west and get some off Bonds' trainer.

I still think he could come back and be productive at DH. I think the Reds rushed him back several times and he never healed.

i wouldn't say he wasted "potential." He wasn't getting any better when he left the mariners. I mean he did have about 10 awesome years with the mariners. Really, he lost many more years of production, not potential.

I can see number 1...how number 2?

I think the knock on Junior was that it came pretty naturally to him for so long he didn't have to have a killer off-season program. The problem with that is that muscle injuries take a long time to heal (especially when you tear the muscle like he did a few years ago). So now he has been trying to rehab a muscle injury and he's putting more stress on his muscles than he did for the majority of his career trying to have a tough off-season program.

Trust me about the hamstring injury. I had pretty much the same thing about 3 years ago and only now can I run "suddenly" (like breaking for a fly ball...or running the bases) without feeling like I'm on the verge of doing something to my hamstring again. In fact the first year after the injury, any time I ran more than a few steps I would hurt it again. It sucks.

Guys, steroids is rampant in MLB. All you have to do is look at the injuries.

People are getting injured just running for a ball, just running the bases, leaning over to take a ground ball, or just SNEEZING!

People in the NFL or NHL don't even get hurt for those kinds of reasons.

There's a reason the DL list these days is about 3x it would usually be in a season 20 years ago.

wow, talk about quoting an article that was on ESPN.com over a month ago.

There have always been injuries from people running around the bases, etc. It's just that now that we have the steroid craze, people exaggerate those injuries to a point that has never been done before.

And if you're so ignoramt as to think players in the NFL don't use steroids, then you really need to wake up.
