Iowa falls 12 spots, SEC teams shift in coaches poll

McLEAN, Virginia (Ticker) - Iowa took a big fall and four Southeastern Conference schools shifted in the USA Today/ESPN coaches poll released Sunday.

Arizona State rolled to a 44-7 rout of Iowa (2-1), dropping the Hawkeyes from 12 to 24 in the poll.

Tennessee rallied for a 30-28 victory over Florida and Auburn edged Louisiana State, 10-9, in pivotal SEC games.

James Wilhoit atoned for a missed extra point with a 50-yard field goal with six seconds left to lift Tennessee (2-0) to the win, moving the Volunteers up five spots from 13 to 8. Florida (1-1) slipped seven places to 16.

Auburn (3-0) also staged a come-from-behind victory as Jason Campbell hit Courtney Taylor with a 16-yard touchdown pass with 1:14 left, tying the game at 9-9. John Vaughn missed the extra-point, but a defensive personal foul gave him another chance and he drilled it. Auburn moved up five spots to 10 while LSU (2-1) fell nine places to 13.

Top-ranked Southern California (3-0) rolled to a 42-10 rout of Brigham Young and earned 48 of a possible 61 first-place votes and 1,510 points.

Second-ranked Oklahoma (3-0) beat Oregon, 31-7 and again received 12 first-place votes.

Georgia (3-0), which defeated Marshall, 13-3, remained third.

Miami (2-0) moved up one spot to No. 4 and picked up a first-place vote. The Hurricanes walloped Louisiana Tech, 48-0 on Saturday.

Idle Texas (2-0) also moved up one place to No. 5 as did Ohio State (3-0) to No. 6, West Virginia (3-0) to No. 7 and California (2-0) to No. 9.

Florida State (1-1) is 11th followed by Virginia (3-0), LSU, Utah (3-0), Purdue (2-0), Florida, Fresno State (3-0), Michigan (2-1), Minnesota (3-0) and Wisconsin (3-0).

Boise State (3-0) and Louisville (2-0) each rose two places to 21 and 22, respectively. Maryland (2-1) slipped four places to 23 after losing to West Virginia.

Oklahoma State (3-0) cracked the poll at 25 after posting a 59-7 victory over Southern Methodist.

Clemson (1-2) dropped out of the poll after losing to Texas A&M, 27-6.
