The following is a daily log of the NHL lockout, which began September 16:
TOTAL DAYS: 17
GAMES CANCELED TODAY: 0
GAMES CANCELED TO DATE: 23
LAST WORK STOPPAGE: 1994 (103 days)
NEWS OF THE DAY: It was another silent day on the labor front as both the league and the union remained quiet and no teams announced the cancellation of games.
The rest of the hockey world also was silent, except for the International Ice Hockey Federation.
At the IIHF semi-annual congress in Belek, Turkey, the Swedish Ice Hockey Association announced the cities of Leksand and Mora will host the 2007 IIHF World Under-20 Championship from December 26, 2006-January 5, 2007.
The 2005 tournament takes place in Grand Forks, North Dakota and Thief River Falls, Minnesota, while Vancouver, British Columbia hosts the 2006 event.
Sweden also announced the 2006 IIHF World Under-18 Championship will be played in the cities of Halmstad and Angelholm.
WHERE ARE THEY NOW?: The answer remains in question for the World Hockey Association.
Co-founder Dr. Nick Vaccaro announced negotiations are underway to sell the league to an investment group based in New York and Boca Raton, Florida. Attorneys for both sides are completing the details of the sale, which is expected to be made public next week.
Despite the disarray of the league, it still hopes to begin play this winter.
ONE YEAR AGO: Three days after his car accident, Atlanta Thrashers right wing Dany Heatley was transferred to St. Joseph's Hospital to undergo a series of tests, including an MRI on his left shoulder and right knee.
Atlanta teammate Dan Snyder, who was the passenger in the car, remained in critical condition following surgery to treat a depressed skull fracture.
The Toronto Maple Leafs announced defenseman Bryan McCabe will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery and miss the 2003-04 season opener.
McCabe, who suffered the injury during the offseason and aggravated it earlier in the week, is expected to be sidelined three to six weeks.
Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Michal Rozsival underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and will miss two months.
Rozsival, who missed 27 games in 2002-03 with an assortment of ailments, suffered an injury to his meniscus during practice.
