You can't tell these things. Four years ago did anyone really think of John Kerry? I bet the list included Al Gore, Gephardt and Hillary.

There are people saying Edwards would have got the bid if the Dem primaries had been longer in time. I bet no-one had heard of Edwards back then.

Anyway, Rudy won't win a general election as a Republican since he's pro-choice. If he gets the nomination, too many of his party won't vote in the gen election. Only if R v Wade was overturned and he could convincingly make it a non-issue would he stand a chance. (Then he might win).

I wouldn't be surprised to see some shuffling in 2005-6. Rumsfeld, Cheney retire...Maybe Frist as VP, groomed to make a run.

9% of our population is pro-life in all circumstances. Rape, health of the mother etc. This should be a major winner for the Dems and it's not. Bush has to point judges to reverse Roe.

the people here who haven't lived in NYC can't fully understand how awesome giuliani is. He is amazing! He is personable, and would be a great thing for this country. Personally, the top 2 on my wishlist are giuliani and bill owens (governor of colorado).

I'll throw out some long shots for the Dems.

Mark Warner - Democratic Governor of Virginia. Would put a reliably Republican state into play forcing Republicans to spend time and money attempting to secure the state.

Barak Obama - Probably not for Pres but possibly VP. Harvard educated civil rights lawyer who managed to grab a whopping 70% of the Illinois vote in absolutely crushing Alan Keyes. Virtually invulnerable to the types of viscious attacks visited on Kerry/Edwards without the media screaming racist at the top of their lungs. Would cause minorities to turn out in unbelievable numbers.

Joe Manchin - Democratic Governor elect of West Virginia. Depends on how our state economy does over the next couple of years. Telegenic businessman from the centrist wing of the party with lots of political experience although none at the national level. Probably nowhere near the type of name recognition to begin building a base of support for a run.

Bill Richardson - Governor of New Mexico. Quite popular in his state and would have the ability to strip Hispanic votes from Republicans.

I don't expect anyone coming from the Senate or House who has been there for several terms. A long legislative record leaves too much to be attacked.

From the Republican side, the only legislator I could see emerging would be Bill Frist. They've got a long list of Governors to choose from. Giuliani could never win the Republican nomination nor could any pro-choice Republican.

Good idea. I highly doubt he would ever run, though.

But could fall victim to same strategy that Edwards was attacked for. Inexperience. But if he does a lot in 3 years, who knows.

Frist has fallen a little bit out of favor, from what I hear. He's taken some criticism for not delivering votes on command.

What about another shot by McCain? If not for dirty campaigning, he probably would have been the nominee in 2000.
