If it was given out at this point, who would win it?
My vote goes to Al Groh. Many people expected the Wolfpack to be 9-0 at this point, but I don't think anyone though Virginia would be 6-3. If State runs the table, though, I think the award will have to go to Chuck Amato.

WOW...
Let's eliminate some...
Not Ralphie...although they've rebounded well.
Not Bobby...
Not Chan
Not Carl...although he's won a couple
Not What's his name at Carolina
Not Tommy...
So we're down to UVA, NC ST and Wake Forest.
If NC State wins out...it should be Mr Chest!
If not...Then for "Coach" of the year...It has to go
to Al Groh...Only because he has done the most with the least.
(experience wise) but the guy at Wake...ha done more with
less talent than anybody. He lost early to a team that
he shouldn't and has been able to right the ship...But he did lose
to UVA...so that guy gets the award...but UVA, slipped at
GaTech. Still has Penn St and VPI and NCSt...if he can win
two or even one of those, he gets it...If not and Wake wins
a couple of more...
Then te guy at Wake should get the award...
It is true...Most everyone thought NC St would be 8-0...or
8-1 at this point.
Fella's and Ladies (I keep forgetting) There is an old
adage that says..."A Real Coach is one who can take his
team and Beat Yours...OR...Take your team and Beat His.
Based on that...I think Groebe (Isn't that his name) would get
the award. He can win at Wake...He damn well could win at
UVA or NC State

Why not "Ralphie?" I think he's right up there (and maybe in the lead right now).
It really all depends on the rest of the season. If anybody wins out between Fridge, Amato, Grobe, Groh (and even Gailey), I think they're in good shape.

I agree...Ralph deserves to be up there. Ywes, they struggled at first, but look what he did with that Downs kid. They tore up Tech, and I wouldn't be surprised if they tore up NCSU. If they do, everyone will come back here saying its Ralph. It all depends at the end of the season.

barring the unforseen, there is no way Ralph Friedgen shouldn't win COY once again...

What he said. The Fridge has done one heck of a job (quite possibly even better than last year) with the Terps this year. From 1-2 to 7-2 and a couple wins away from no worse than 2nd place outright in the ACC and a trip to the Gator Bowl.

Amato's slide when it comes to playing "good" teams I think eliminates him.
I would go with Friegden, but he got it last years so they will probably give it to some other guy.
So then I would say the guy from Wake.
Althought I think the Fridge deserves it more. He is a great college coach so far. So many expected him to fall flat on his face this year without the returning QB and injured RB.
