"I believe this year's NBA season would be much better if ... There were more players with the attitude, intelligence, interests and personality of Shane Battier."
Bill Walton, in his Pre-season wish list."

just you wait dookie...Shane isn't one of Jerry West's favorites and what West says goes on the Grizzlies now, so laugh it up now....you will see.

You do know that Sidney Lowe almost made Battier a captain this year, right?

popeye jones was a captain on the wizards last year....your point??? Just look at the stats from the first 2 games...

minutes - 51
fg's - 5/13
3's - 0/3
ft's - 1/2
rebounds - 6
assists - 4
steals - 4
points - 11

these are the stats of a so-called starter?

But hey, only time will tell...it's not worth arguing about it now....

Popeye Jones also started many games last year, and when he didn't start, he was quick off the bench.

Your claim that Battier will be "stuck on the bench halfway through the year" is amusing.

<a href='http://www.nba.com/playerfile/popeye_jones/index.html?nav=page' target='_blank'>http://www.nba.com/playerfile/popeye_jones...x.html?nav=page</a>

Popeye Jones started over half the games he played in last year (40/79) and averaged 24 minutes a game.

What's your point???

Gooden will win ROY, he's an outstanding player and will start.

Battier will often start, also, and when he doesn't, he'll get significant PT.

So now you're trying to equate Popeye Jones and Shane Battier?

If the difference isn't obvious to you, then you are truly an idiot.

c'mon, you now that's not what I am doing...I am simply saying that if you are happy with shane getting popeye jones-like minutes (which you insinuated up above) then I have proved my point...Shane may indeed be a better ballplayer than jones (of course he is) but if he is just a role pleyer on that grizzlies team, that's saying something about him as a player...that is all I will say for now...let's rehash this discussion come january/february, then we shall see...

Quit putting words into my mouth. I never said he would be a role player. What I am saying is that this Grizzlies team is incredibly talented, and that is the only reason Shane wouldn't start. And, still, I think he will start the majority of games this season. But, I do agree, only time will tell.

Well, your claim is that he would be riding the bench.

Care to look at how many games he has started?

I don't know, why don't you go and ask Hubie Brown, former Duke, who is now the coach of the Grizz.

He seems to like Shane a bunch.

Now, what were you saying? :D

well, as you have eluded to, the circumstances have certainly changed, but it is still up to the Klingon to produce, or his ass will be right where I predicted it to be...
