That last paragraph is really funny, since it implies a causal relationship where a correlation hasn't even been established. Look at DC...a high rate of college grads, but everyone knows that it dominated politically by an urban minority that has little in common with the rest of the country.

Futhermore, what's the big deal about a college degree? Given the state of our educational system, what does that really mean?

Finally, the breakdown by state is very superficial. Why not do it by county? I'd be willing to wager that the counties w/ the worst public schools voted blue. How much of an indictment is that? DC (albeit not a county) would fit that mold.

Wow, is that ever anecdotal.....

Especially in states with good schools and big cities. Look at Massachusetts.

Massachusetts has Harvard and MIT, but they also have a very large city (Boston) with many blue collar workers. Two different drivers. However, you have used this to signify one thing.

Let me try one for you. About 99% of cancer victims own cars. Cars must cause cancer, right? You can't find a much better correlation than that.

Good thinking. That is the kind of liberal thinking that keeps a lot of these studies in business.

Quote:"As a regular reader of the "Economist" I can confirm that this table (for the 2000 election) was indeed published in the 'Economist". However, a few issues later on, the 'Economist' published a retraction, saying the data was unable to be verified and possibly a hoax."

This is always a good sign when publishing something. Worked great for Dan Rather.

Just one more thing Dogger. Given your subtitle, did you ever look at what Kerry's grades were?

Hmm, wonder if it's because many people leave their rural settings for a much more promising future?

Don't hurt your brain thinking about that though Dogger.

I've seen that list several times since the election.

Since we're being subjective here...

I'd be interested in seeing a ranking based on rudeness, where the states would be ranked from rudest/disgruntled (top) to friendliest/hospitable (bottom).

I have a feeling the ranking would be very similar to that "IQ" list.

In summary, we might conclude that "blue" places like L.A., NYC, Boston, Philly, and most of the rust-belt cities like Flint, Detroit and Chicago are far more unfriendly to passersby than "red" places like Tulsa, Des Moines, Denver, Nashville, Kansas City, etc.

I mean, where would you rather have your car break down and try to find someone to help you out? Brooklyn or Topeka?

I also think it's also worth pointing out that many who have multiple degrees and PhDs tend to believe they know more than everyone else, and that they could "fix" the world based on their own brainpower viewpoints.

i.e... "I'm so smart and educated, I know more than those dumb farmers; thus, the common folks should leave their decision-making to me, since I'm more enlightened... in other words, I stand for more government"

Here's my 2 cents.

I am up here in one of the Liberal La La lands. Been here in Olympia, Washington since the 16th of Feb, leave next Tuesday(THANK THE LORD!)

This city is so freaking liberal it's pathetic. There are bums walking around everywhere. I mean, people younger than me, probably healthier, that, hell, may not WANT a job. Of course, maybe that's why they are liberal, they want more government and don't want to take any responsibility for anything. That's what I see with liberals, the "Elites", and their serfs. There is not much more than that.

Take any conservative party and we are very diverse. Quite frankly, conservatives are more into getting the government OUT of people's lives and out of their damn path leading to their goals. Those big cities everyone is talking about? I would venture to say that if you were to head to the suburbs, it would be more conservative. How do I know? I've been to a helluva lot of'em.

Atlanta and Augusta Georgia voted for Kerry. Evans/Martinez, Alpharetta, Cobb County, and others around Augusta and Atlanta voted for Bush. Wanna know what I see? Democratic areas are where I see poverty run amok and government in shambles. Conservative areas are far better off. When they DO start to get behind, the politicians are canned. That's cut-n-dry. It's the people's money. They WILL get you out of there. With Democrats, hell, it's someone elses money so who cares, right?

I couldn't agree with you more.

Need another example? Look at NYC. It was a frickin' wreck until Republican Rudy Guliani came in and started kicking some bum *** He heckled them enough that they left and the people loved him for it.

I still stand by my comments (note I did say "many", not all). I'm curious how many Ivy League, and of course Berkeley, college professors likely believe that their multiple degrees and positions in academia entitle them to shape the world 'their way' whilst looking down their noses at rural mid-America. Ditto for a number of Hollywood celebrities.

Those states on the top, the educated, higher IQ states are also the most distraught. They have experienced the most of the negative economic impact in the 2000's - so naturally they will go against the ruling party during an economic downturn. Those states are harder to conduct business in, demand higher salaries, have the most expensive real estate, have higher taxes, ect. Particularly in your "liberalized, Euro-American" cities. Some of the homeless that you speak of RebelKev have jobs, but just can't afford a place to live - especially in the pricey Puget Sound region. On the other hand, ephemeral cities like Charlotte, Las Vegas, Orlando, Phoenix, Austin, Boise, and Atlanta have unprecedented growth and their costs are relatively low. But if history shows a pattern, other ephemeral cities like San Diego and Seattle, which previously boomed, have become pricey and as difficult to do business as in New York, San Francisco, Chicago, and Boston. On the bubble of following this pattern is the state of Florida, particularly in the Southeast and Southwest.
