I thought this sort of thing got thrown out w/ Brown v Board of Education!

What about the civil rights movements of the 1960's!?

<a href='http://www.columbusafricentric.com/' target='_blank'>http://www.columbusafricentric.com/</a>

And just this morning, on Pacifica no less!, I heard about protests regarding U Illinois mascot. So what's this? the 'Nubians'?

This would be like having an irish school, or an english school. I'm not going to go through that whole site, but are they keeping white africans out? Or how about non-africans. Are they basing their admissions on the color of their skin. On the surface it appears that way.

You can check out the philosphy of their school/education in a fairly short document. It explicitly states (and references other authors) that black students need to be educated in a different way than others.

Isn't that precisely the sort of thing that just got Harvard's president in trouble?

Moreover, calling themselves the "Nubians" is again, EXACTLY, the sort of thing that people are protesting about regarding U Ill, and of course other schools (HS and college) have changed their mascots due to similar opposition.

I won't disagree, I think this is a blatent example of the double standard in society.

Only minorities can say racist things. It's alright to have an african american engineering society, but God help us if there's an anglo-american engineer's society.

Same thing goes for sexism. Only men can be sexists. When women say men suck, it's cute/accepted, or looked at as girl power. If men do they are looked at as chauvenistic.

Some people just don't see it this way. I asked a female friend one time why there needed to be a women in architecture society, when there was already an International architecture society. Should there also have been a men in construction in society? She didn't get what I was saying and she asked what do the men need a society for, there's the International architecture society.

Now, I understand the benefits of these things and the men really don't need men in whatever societies, but at least recognize the double standard instead of playing the fool.

Here's a nice bit of history.

It clearly shows bias, but that's part of the joy of reading such things. The Nubians were obviously warring, imperialistic societies, trying to force their values on others.

I couldn't agree more, but the womens societies usually "allow" men to be members. However, we know how that goes. You are allowed to pay dues, but not lead. We'll call you for the heavy lifting during our service projects. This reverse racism does make me sick though. There may be more whites, but seem to be the minority. Also, depending on your section of the country. Some true minorities, Native Americans or Hispanics, are not considered minorities. Thereby, sending all minority local government projects soley to black and women owned companies.
