About knowing they can play some good basketball, maybe. About being able to play for a great school. Who knows?

Even if you're implying that they should be down on themselves because of what happened last year, over half the team wasn't even here last year.

Perhaps it did. There may be some other factors, though.

It may have something to do with a bit of culture shock. I know I felt some of that way when I had gone to a private, mostly-white Christian school up through 8th grade (playing on an all-white basketball team)... and then in ninth grade I went to the second largest public school in the state (at the time) and played on what was basically an all-black JV basketball team. There was definitely a cockiness/swagger that I encountered there that I'd never seen before on the basketball court.

I'm not saying anything like that applies to Butch at all, but there is definitely a difference between Wisconsin basketball and North Carolina basketball. Needless to say, his decision still came down to the last minute, so I'm not sure it was really his being "turned off" by Carolina rather than being "turned on" by Wisconsin. If he really didn't like the players here or the coaching, he would have dropped us from his list a long time ago... rather than have us in his top two until the very end.
