What a week! First it was Isringhausen, then Benitez, and now Mota. No to mention Gagne, Borowski, and Affeldt are already on the DL going into last week.

St. Louis and Florida will probably be ok since both injuries are deemed short-term. But the Giants will really have to find a replacement once again, kinda sucks for them.

Amazing...Gagne, Smoltz, Benitez and Isringhausen were probably the NL's four best closers last year, and none of them are closing a month into the season!

Well, now K Rod has a strained forearm, but he's not going on the DL, at least not yet.

Scott Shields picked up save #4 today and Dempster got #2 or #3.

I believe I am speaking for all Red's fans when I say that I want Graves to go away. He was absolutely horrendous today.

Kolb is now down and out too. No health problems, he's just been booted from his role. The Braves will now go with a closer by committee.

I think Dotel has a bum elbow that may land him on the DL. Just read that today.

Thank Christ. Kolby is killing us.

But I hate closer by committee. Boston tried it a couple of years ago with Timlin, Howry and Embree and it failed miserably. I'd like to see Bernero get a shot. He's been pitching great, and for one inning he can be very effective, and occasionally even dominant.

I like the idea of Bernero being the closer, but we also may need him or Sosa to be a 5th starter while Thomson is on the shelf. Remember, both used to be starters a couple years ago (with Detroit and Tampa Bay respectively).

Hams is only going to miss one start, and we'll call up Kyle Davies or Seth Griesinger (sp?) to replace him. As for Thomson, it remains to be seen who will take his spot. My guess would be Sosa.

16 gms, 22.2 IP, 3-0, 2.78 ERA, 19 K's and only 2 walks. Not too shabby, and it's not like we've got a stable of horses to choose from.

he hasn't done that as a closer. haven't you guys been awake for the hawkins and dotel experiments. the 9th inning is sooo different.

Okay, so who should we go with? Reitsma?

I say give Bernero a shot. If it doesn't work, maybe we can go out and trade for someone.

i didn't say you shouldn't give bernero a shot. i'm just saying that you seem to be labeling him as awesome before he's even taken the ball.

BTW, kyle davies isn't exactly dominant.

Okay...I have no idea where I ever said he was awesome, I just said he's pitched good enough to deserve a chance.

Who said anything about Davies?

Reistma's closed some games before when he was with the Reds, so at least he's had some experience in that. I still can't believe the Reds traded him :bang:

On another note, the Braves can have Graves :D
