I am totally shocked by this. The first attack from democrats on this will be around the fact that the choice is not a woman or other minority. It won't matter if he's extremely qualified.

Edit - the first attack was that he may be too "radical" for the American people. But I think that's the standard for any nominee of the other party.

Nicknamed "Scalito" for views resembling those of conservative Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, Samuel Alito Jr. is a favorite son of the political right. Appointed in 1990 by George H.W. Bush to the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, Alito has earned a reputation for intellectual rigor and polite but frequent dissent in a court that has been historically liberal. His mettle, as well as a personable demeanor and ties to former Republican administrations, has long had observers buzzing about his potential rise to the high court. "Sam Alito is in my mind the strongest candidate on the list," says Pepperdine law Prof. Douglas Kmiec. "I know them all . . . but I think Sam is a standout because he's a judge's judge. He approaches cases with impartiality and open-mindedness."

Well you got what you wanted a conservative white boy who will rule to restict abortion rights. From the original reports, he doesn't sound too bad. I think if you go on qualifications and leave the left vs right bullcheese out of it, he would be a no brainer.

Let the mud slinging begin. :pop:

Actually I would be happy with a conservative white girl, black girl, black man, hispanic man, hispanic woman etc. White boy plays no role in it.

Agree totally.

In the end presidents, be they republican or democrat, have the right to nominate judges and the right to nominate whoever they choose as long as they're qualified.

Did you see him stumble through the nomination speech?

I don't think that I am only person who thinks the Dub's public speaking skills could use some sharpening.

What am I trying to do man?

You said that Dub may be smarter than we think.

I pointed out he didn't sound smart stumbling through the Alito nomination speech. He does not address the public well. That is a fact. I thought you conservatives were all for facts...

I understand there are more factors to analying a person's intelligence then their ability to communicate, but it is an important factor.

You just don't see Dubs true intelligence when he is addressing the public. Is that an okay statement to make?

How many mutes have been President of the United States?
How many mutes have been the head of a major corporation?

I am pretty sure that if Dub was a Democrat, you would be making the same comments about his communication skills that I have made.
