ntr -- new musicians/songs
Thought maybe I'd start a thread on singers you recently started listening to. I.e. in the past three months I've been referred to Jason Mraz, Amos Lee, Egypt Central. This week I heard Brandi Carlile for the first time also. Wow. They're not necessarily "new" artists, but I just started listening to them.

Any other recommendations? I'm particularly interested in supporting Memphis-area artists, but I'll listen to just about everything, just not pop-country (old-school country is ok).

If you want some good localish music try:

- Jed and Kelley (folky singer/songwriter music) from Memphis
- The Nobility (formerly Jetpack UK) a rock band out of Nashville (one guy is from Memphis)
- The Features (also rock from Nashville)
- Big Silver (rock with a hint of country from Little Rock)

in terms of local bands, you should check out the united.

http://www.myspace.com/theunitedmusic

check out their songs on myspace...especially "runaround"

in terms of newer bands, im a big fan of Muse, Ratatat, Mouse on Mars, Slider, and the Drive-by Truckers. Also, a former Memphis musician, Chase Pagan, is really good as well. He moved to Dallas a couple years back after drumming for Logic 34(Tomorrow's Rescue) for awhile.

they moved to dallas about 4 years ago. i believe they've broken up by now. chase pagan left them about 3 years ago and was signed by ross robinson's label. that broke off somehow...not sure of the story. he is really good....when he comes back to memphis, you should check them out.

Thanks I really appreciate the update. I actually bought a Tomorrow's Rescue t-shirt (think I drank to much that night) but I always enjoyed catching them at the Daisy....I will look him up when he comes back to town...
