Who was the band that had that guitarist, Shawne Lane (I think that was his name)? That guy was as good as they got.

That would be 'The Willys'. I used to bartend at the Wallstreet Deli and it was amazing how Shawne would play... WHILE READING A BOOK at the same time. Unreal.

That's it. That guy could stand there and play his butt off and look like he was thinking about something else completely.

She sings at my old Church (Heartsong) on occasion. You are right, that woman can sing. One of regular singers is Jackie Johnson (toured w/ the Who in Europe) and hearing those two on stage at the same time was awesome.

My wife always liked Come In Berlin but I liked seeing Todd Snider at his usual stops - Newby's, the Daily Planet, and Hastings Place.

I loved to go hear Freeworld on the weekends @ R.P. Tracks in the mid to late '80s. Had great trumpet sax players - can't remember their names. Trumpet player was a tall curly blond guy and the sax player was an older black guy who wore a captain's cap, as I recall.
I was in a high school band with the guitarist from Tora Tora (Keith Douglas) and was a class mate in band class with the drummer (John Patterson). I always loved to watch them play.
The fist time I ever saw Lord Tracy was @ Stage Stop "in rockin' Raleigh". At that time they were still called Tracey Lords. They absolutely BLEW MY MIND! I also laughed my a$$ off. Those dudes were funny.
There also was a band that opened up for them often, and I can't remember their name. The bassist had a stuffed cat on a noose hung from his mic stand. Every once in a while he would kick it around. Very raunchy lyrics, but very entertaining.

Just remembered the band's name: Chosen. Like I said, They were a bit edgy.

Mudboy and the Neutrons were great. I saw them at Handy Park and the Overton Park Shell several times.

Anybody ever heard of a band called 'Dangerous Bacon'? They were great. They were made up of a few guys that went to school in Whitehaven (Bishop Byrne mostly). They played a few frat parties and over on Highland a few times.

My first day in Memphis I was able to see Mel and the Party Hats play on campus. I didn't know a soul at the time but they helped acclimate me to college life.

We had absolutely great music at all the old high school and college fraternity parties. The house musicians from Stax could be had for a small fee and the music was great. I remember hearing Booker T and the MG's, Johnny Taylor, Al Green, Otis, The Bar Kays, Little Milton,Travis Wammack--who else? I remember going to parties that had Chuck Berry, Sam and Dave, Sam the Sham and the Pharoahs and the unforgettable "Doug Clark and the Hot Nuts."

That must have been the golden age of Memphis Music.

The Highsteppers
Larry Raspberry and the Highsteppers could make the lame dance and white people clap in time. Trader Dicks was my favorite.
