Alford is going to try to follow the Tarkanian/Calipari model. If he can recruit at a high level there, New Mexico can dominate the Mountain West much like UNLV dominated the Big West and Memphis is dominating C-USA. New Mexico has a good tradition, rabid fans and a decent amount of money.

I read Alford also said he wanted to be at a school that focuses more on basketball than football.
