Thats the best way to do it... buy you a couple of boxes of legs at a grocery or Sams, each box is usually 2 or 2.5lbs, I usually do 2 boxes and eat until I just can't force anymore down. Boil you a big pot of water. Throw a bag of crab boil in the water and/or some salt, pepper, cayenne and anything else you want to dump in the pot... drop the legs in it only takes 2-4 minutes depending on if they are frozen or not. I do this about once a month and they are pretty tasty, I usaully throw some shrimp in the mix as well. If you do it inside prepare to sneeze a few times as all the spices and crab boil smells can overtake the kitchen. Its usually best to boil them outside if you have a fish cooker or something.

I am going to give this a shot this weekend. I will use a big pot on my turkey deep fryer. How do I know when they are done? Just count 4 minutes? Or is there a possibility of overcooking? Do you use snow crab or King crab?

Thanks for the tip. If it doesnt work out, I guess Ill have to drive to Destin. Or pony up the dough at Folk's Folly. My wife is pregnant and really wants some good crab legs. No is not an option...lol

Anyone had crab legs at hooters? They have great wings so I figure the crab legs might be decent.

i normally get Swordfish and it has been excellent everytime.

Bang Bang Shrimp is great.

But, the best appetizer in town is the Hot wing wraps at Blue Monkey. Yumm.

I ate there over the weekend and had the bang bang shrimp. I also had a special called Mahi Mahi Rockefeller which was fantastic. It was the Mahi Mahi with the Reyes sauce. It was so choice, if you have the means I highly suggest picking one up.

Most packages will have some form of instructions on them as far as cooking time. If you cook them too long, they will get a little rubbery. It all depends on whether they are frozen or thawed. If frozen it will probably take 4-5 minutes. If thawed, it should only take around 2 minutes. Also, seafood like shrimp and crablegs will turn a pink color if they aren't already and float to the top of the water when they are done. As far as king or snow, I like both and there isn't any difference in how you cook them. Its takes a little practice, but its hard to mess up boiling seafood. A little tip, if you want more of the flavor of the spices, after they are done, turn off the burner and put a lid on the pot and let them sit in the water for a few minutes before taking them out.

I don't know, most store boxes are 2.5 lbs. unless you have a supermarket or seafood place that sells them by the pound like shrimp. I can eat a box or more if I'm in the mood with sides, usually boiled potatoes and/or corn on the cob and other goodies, but I could eat shrimp and crablegs all day so I don't know how much the average person should get.

It was obscure. The entrance was by Dillard's. Actually, the restaurant was above Dillard's.

My dad and I went there quite often. Good seafood.

Great price. ;-)

I remember a restaurant being there, but I don't ever recall eating there. On a side note from that, just down the street on Perkins was a place called O'Malley's that we used to frequent - they had an awesome all you can eat crableg night.......

Crab legs are cooked before they are frozen and packaged. You can safely eat them right out of the bag/box. You really just need to heat them through. I ususally just steam mine for a few minutes until they are hot to touch. It is really too easy not to do yourself - you can hardly go wrong.

Most of the time they are cooked, but Sams usually has both. The cooked ones are usually in the frozen foods section and the raw are in the meat section. I have done both and both seem to be good.

On Maui, I found all-you-can-eat Alaskan King crab legs at Moose McGillycuddy's for only $26. Incredible. I couldn't believe it. I sure got my money's worth too. After 3 servings, the chief had to come out and see what was going on. Needless to say I didn't want another crab leg for a month after that. lol

Both Costco's (screw Sams) have seafood roadshows every other weekend with some of the most amazing looking crablegs I think I've ever seen. GREAT deal on them too. They are about as fresh as you can get and most of the butchers at the Hacks Cross location are very good and could probably give you some cooking advice. You can always call to see if they've got it this weekend (901)214-0062.

I agree...they have the BEST looking stuff. They also have some MASSIVE shrimp that you can throw in to boil with the crab legs.

Yeah, those shrimp are AWESOME. My rents used to get them all the time and boil them up. Very tasty.

I've got to stop reading this thread cause I'm getting really hungry and it's not even 4 o'clock yet!

This is me right now:

Soul Fish is good, & I hear there's a Flying Fish Cafe or something that just opened downtown, but those are catfish joints. Other than that, you're stuck with Red Lobster or another chain! (Joe's Crab Shack? NO THANK YOU.)

For a chain, I really like Joes. Too bad y'all don't have the options we have here. Sea Island http://www.shrimphouse.com/index.cfm?fus...merisuites and Barnaccle Bills are two great seafood places here, with most everything under $10.[/url]

Are you serious about Joe's? I think you can get better fish at McDonalds. Yuck.

I was thinking the same thing for the poster that suggested that Red Lobster has good crab legs. Any shellfish there is very over cooked to the point where my tire would tasted better than those rubbery lobster tails or crab legs.

I asked an expert (seafood wholesaler in town) and he said:

King crab: The Halfshell
Snow crab: Joe's (he said "snow is a cheap all you can eat crab and believe it or not Joe's does do good crab legs)

And this guy wouldn't lie - his company sells to pretty much everyone in town.
