The biggest story about the trouble with the NBA All Star Game? A NFL PLAYER GETTING INVOLVED IN A SHOOTING. A player for whom this wasn't the first or even the fifth time that he's been involved in an incidence of violence, and he's still being tolerated and promoted. Where's the need for the NFL to crack down on criminal activity?
The NFL has as much trouble with criminal thugs as the NBA, if not more. People with preconceived opinions of the NBA use the "criminal thug" reason to reinforce their dislike, but ignore fights in NASCAR and criminal activity in the NFL. Double standard. If one doesn't like the NBA but likes the NFL, either admit that the criminal activity reason is a hypocritical double standard, or be honest and use a real reason that actually distinguishes the two products.
Pacman Jones. Tank Johnson. Chris Henry. The entire Bengals organization. Dominick Rhodes. Merriman, the steroid abuser.
If folks don't like the NBA, admit that it has nothing to do with criminal activity. Otherwise, you wouldn't like the NFL. The reason could be a dilution of talent. The reason could be how the game is played. The reason could be you don't like looking at the faces of players. It doesn't matter. At least those are reasons that can distinguish the two leagues. Criminal activity is a red herring reason to prefer the NFL over the NBA.
