smith 7 is a local record label/philanthropy/clothing company. They support a lot of local bands in the area. in the past, piston honda, my surrender, the holiday, dora, etc... released records under that banner. they exist as more of a clothing company now i believe. they also do a lot of fundraising and charity work throughout the city. brian vernon, the guy who runs smith 7, is a Memphis graduate and a huge Tiger fan.

Eddie lived in an old car behind the Bull Shot until some frat punk set it on fire. He did a good job cleaning up the area but the railroad folks didn't appreciate his "collection." He was always friendly and once told me he was, "Poor as a snake." RIP

I still laugh when people in Memphis complain about traffic. I realized I hadn't experienced real traffic until I moved to Virginia and had to drive around DC and the Tidewater area. Many days Denver is not much better than DC.

smae here when i moved to austin. traffic is so much worse here. then i went to houston for a weekend. geez. if you ever want to treat yourself to a 10 hour traffic jam, then houston is your place.

wow! i didn't lose as many brain cells between that time & now as i thought! ;-)

i remember that day - we all sat on the bleachers in PE class, listening to our walkmans & waiting for the inevitable.

i know what you're talking about now. I never bought into that non-sense.


you know you're from Memphis whn 3 tornados or more are heading straight for your house, but always seem to jump right over you or bypass Memphis all together.

The Voodoo Village reference is a classic. You can still see writing all over the street on Callis' cutoff too. My entry: You know you are from Memphis if you used to hang out at Krystal and McDonalds on Poplar and go to Sea Isle school to watch fights.
