[quote="DawgNBama"][quote="Coach Doh"][quote="kaisersayzo"][quote="Coach Doh"]Wouldn't it be better to be excellent at one sport and suck at the rest, than to be mediocre at all sports?

Could be, or it could be that Duke doesn't have as wide of a recruiting base as Stanford does. Many Alabama & Auburn fans were furious that a highly sought after in-state recruit chose Stanford over both of them. I'm guessing a lot of Duke fans think it's dumb to recruit on the West Coast, but Stanford is recruiting on the Gulf Coast, which isn't too far from the Atlantic!!! Maybe Duke needs to really go national with its recruiting (ala ND & Stanford)

Sorry to say that with Duke's recent football history that recruiting nationally might be kinda tough just coming off the nation's longest losing streak and all. Hopefully they'll make a little more noise this season and can gain a little more respect. I'm sure Duke recruits as much as any team but I kinda feel like a lot of their players come to them. It seems like Duke and a lot of other not-so-great football schools seem to be in a cycle and will come up with a fairly decent team about every 10-12 years and can gain a little momentum to build on from that.
This year needs to be that season for Duke with all the returning starters they have. But if Duke has a .500 season this year I'm sure they would be just as happy or happier than Miami if they played for the National Champioship and lost.
But hey, calling Duke a one sport school is crazy, they even let a female try out for the football team as a kicker, it got their asses sued, but can anyone else in the ACC claim to be that diversified?

This is true. And I actually kinda liked that move too, except the getting sued part. Then again, Goldsmith did do his female kicker kinda dirty. (it should have been Goldsmith getting sued, instead of Duke).

And there was a story in the news not too long ago about a school I cannot remember that refused to let a female try out for a men's sport citing the Duke lawsuit as the reason. There's always someone that will screw up a good thing.

I'm sure that there are many student athletes and non-athletes that get to Duke and find out it was just not meant to be for them. They at least got a chance.

And I'm talking to idiots who say that Duke isn't a good athletic school... or should be kicked out of the ACC...
Don't get your panties in a bunch. I certainly never said Duke was a bad sporting school. I actually think they are quite impressive considering the academics that are required.
I just like to point out things that I think are funny and kinda dumb at the same time.

If Duke didn't finish in the basement in the ACC of any of the REAL sports(baseball and football) besided basketball, I might say different, and maybe even DT. The point is, without basketball, there would be no Dook. Does anyone watch Women's Tennis? Does anyone actually watch Women's Golf? NOPE
Give it a rest Nate. Duke is a one sport school.
Quote:worse athletic schools like GT
Make it to the baseball REGIONAls, and you can talk. Wait, WIN A GAME IN FOOTBALL, THEN MAYBE you could talk. But then again, why would you call ECU a victory? Thats a cakewalk, yet the biggest game of the year for Dook. Have fun in the basement.

Woohoo!!
So now that Duke has won the ACC tournament in 2 out of the last 3 years, does that count?
Don't bust out the double standard now!
