Report: Owens attempted suicide
Posted: Wednesday September 27, 2006 9:19AM; Updated: Wednesday September 27, 2006 9:32AM

WFAA-TV in Dallas is reporting that Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens attempted to commit suicide Tuesday night.

According to a Dallas Police report obtained by the station, Owens was depressed and reportedly took prescription pain pills.

WFAA says the report states a woman companion said that she observed Owens putting two pills in his mouth. The woman said the prescription of 40 pills was filled on September 18 and -- until Tuesday -- Owens had taken only five pills. The police report said Owens was asked if he had taken the rest of the prescription; Owens said, "Yes."

What!!??

There was a blurb in the CA about him going to a hospital.

Attempted suicide???

Wow.

I'll shelve the cynicism until hearing a report that he is ok. If he is not ok then that certainly needs to be taken care of first (by him and his family).

Do they often induce vomiting for "alergic reactions"?

No. For an allergic reaction, they'd likely treat it with the proper medication (antihistimines, etc.).

Who knows. T.O. did have a surgically repaired broken finger and had a prescription for the pain pills. If he was just trying to get good and lit, he may have accidentally overdosed, gotten sick and scared, and called an ambulance. If he had something strong & time released like Oxycontin, and did something like crush them and take them. In that case, two pills could very well result in an overdose as all of the drug would've been released at one time rather than over an extended period as intended.

I doubt he tried to actually commit suicide, but I don't doubt that he was trying to get lit off his pain pills and may have accidentally overdosed.

read the new article on ESPN.

Once the paramedics got there, he shoved 2 more pills down, and told them he was "depressed" and when they asked if he was trying to deliberately hurt himself, he said "yes".

You are correct twice. For an OD on pain pills you make them vomit and then give them Narcan, a drug that almost instantly reverses the narcotic's effect.

I am curious as to what the pain medication was. Some of them can actually induce depression /psychosis.

As an act of humanity, I hereby volunteer to take painkillers off the hands of anyone who gets depressed when taking them. I promise to dispose of them in an effective manner. ;-)

It means you should immediately offer a trade to everyone in your league who doesn't pay close attention. They may accept it on name recognition before researching his condition.

I feel bad for the guy. I do live in Dallas, but I'm not a TO fan or a Cowboys fan, but despite that, I've got to feel for the guy. He obviously has deep personal issues. I've had friends that have seen him out and everytime they do, he is alone or with a bodyguard only. This is obviously something that is waaaay beyond football.

This might be good for him to finally get the point where he has to get the help that he needs and can start to deal with the issues that he has always had. I've heard he had a tough life growing up, and it sounds like he never dealt with it and has it has given him the negative personality that he has today.

I hope he comes out of this a better person.
