quote:
Florida State coach Bobby Bowden drew some lofty comparisons Tuesday after watching game tape of Iowa State's double-threat quarterback Seneca Wallace.
"I see Seneca as a combination of a Charlie Ward and Michael Vick," said Bowden, comparing Wallace to the 1993 Heisman winner and the Atlanta Falcons star respectively. "He runs well, but he also has a great arm."
The Seminoles open the season Saturday against Wallace's Cyclones in the Eddie Robinson Classic in Kansas City, and the Florida State defense has spent extra time preparing for Wallace.
Last season, Wallace threw for 2,044 yards and 11 touchdowns and rushed for 663 yards and seven touchdowns.
"We just have to be disciplined and focused," defensive coordinator Mickey Andrews said. "How well we do on Saturday is going to depend on how well we do as a group."
One cause for concern is Florida State's banged-up secondary.
Starting free safety Kyler Hall has a broken hand and sprained ankle, while both of the strong safeties, Jerome Carter and Claudius Osei, are nursing strained hamstrings. Backup free safety B.J. Ward has spent the latter half of preseason camp battling shoulder injuries.
