VT and Miami in the ACC! Boy this has to hurt Wake's chances of becoming bowl eligible every year.

Yeah, too bad for us ACC teams. We don't play in a pathetic conference like Toledo does, where Marshall is the only team worth anything.

Ahhhhhh...
I don't know how to break the news to you...but
Toledo beat No. Ill 33-30 last year.
And only a Marshall drive in the closing seconds
denied the Rockets of the MAC title.
btw...*This is not a flame" I only write like this
to annoy Lucy! Then she gets physical..."And
Lucy...I love it when you get physical!" "I'm trying
to remember the last time...was it your place or
mine?"

Sure, flame at Toledo fan for no reason at all. Your parents must be proud. And since you want to talk like you are something, let me tell you DUKE is a football powerhouse!
As for basketball, the only recent meeting between Toledo and Duke that I am every aware of was in women's basketball:
2001
Toledo 71
Duke 65
So maybe you should keep your mouth shut instead of flaming someone for no reason at all! My original post was not made to be a flame!
And you said "too bad for us ACC teams". Well I never said a word about all ACC schools, only Wake Forest.

Wow! Duke only lost by 2 @ NC State, 5 vs. Virginia, 3 vs. Clemson, 2 vs. North Carolina & 5 @ Northwestern. These are 5 games that could have easily went our way. Duke's just got to learn how to finish off these games. With those as wins, we would have finished 7-5 & would have been going bowling.

Recent games between Toledo and Marshall:
2000 (@ Toledo)
TOLEDO 42
Marshall 0
2001 (@ Toledo)
TOLEDO 41
Marshall 36
2001 MAC Championship
2002 (@ Marshall)
Marshall 49
TOLEDO 45
Toledo has a better winning percentage than Marshall does since the 2000 season with a 29-8 record.

Switch schedules with Wake Forest for 1 season & see who has the better record. Oh boy, you guys almost won the MAC title, what an accomplishment.

I would love to switch schedules.
However, for the last friggin' time - I WAS NOT FLAMING with my post on here. No wonder ACC fans hate Duke and their fans! You guys don't have a clue!

Wow, when was the last time the Wake board had an 8 post thread without even a Wake fan posting? LOL
Anyway, to answer rocketfootball's original comment:
Quote:Boy this has to hurt Wake's chances of becoming bowl eligible every year.
I think the addition of Miami will potentially give the ACC 2 BCS berths in good years. The ACC has 6 bowl tie-ins and there is always the possibility of picking up unfilled slots from other bowls. Wake's football program is on the upward swing, so while the additions of Miami & VT will make our schedule beginning in 2005 more difficult, it does give Coach Grobe time to get more of "his" players into the program. I think we will continue to be competitive and in a few years the perception of our football program will move from "bowl-bubble team" to "regular minor bowl contender". I don't wear black & gold glasses thinking we'll be challenging for any national championships (at least not in football), but I don't think we're going to be sitting in the cellar with Duke either.
I will admit I would be a very happy girl to be attending the Spare Tire Bowl in Charlotte or the Peach here at home soon and actually be rooting for MY team! :)

Lucy - one other thing I thought of. It might be tough for Wake the next few years. But with the ACC being considered a better football conference, Grobe should be able to start getting some better recruits to come to Wake within a year or two.

Grobe's already working on that. Signing Ben Mauk out of Kenton, OH, Parade All-American and national passing recordholder, was a major coup.

Lucy...
Have you ever seen Maulk play?
He played in the smallest classification there is in
Ohio.
Truthfully...the kid from Lexington, who Wake has
signed to a baseball scholarship...(And btw...led
Dunbar to the State Title in Baseball) is a better
QB. (Josh Ellis)

I know these post are old but thought I could shed some light on Ben Mauk. I have seen him play many times Wake Forest got a steel in this kid. Ohio has 6 divisions in football, Mauk plays in Divsion 4 but plays division 2 and three teams most the season. He also just won the MVP in the Big 33 game played on 19 July 03. That had alot of player that are going to D1 schools. He is the real deal. :)

An example of small classifications is Brodie Croyle who starts for Alabama this year. There a six classifications in Alabama as well and he played in the Class 1A (lowest group.) He is a very good player and a very good quarterback so a classification won't show anything. Like Byron Leftwich at Marshall he played the same against teams in the MAC as nonconference games.

Playing on a passing team in the state of Ohio...is the
same as taking 10 Canadians to Texas and playing in
a Hockey League.
