Howdy MsNole!! What's y'all's take on this upcoming season for the 'Noles? Is it an optimistic one, or one with questions? Do y'all have a lot of returning starters, or are a few new guys supposed to step up? As an outsider, just curious how the Noles should look this year.....

After the last two years...It is a season with "questions!"

The chief one being..."Will the team regain its composure,
confidence and swagger?"

"Will Rix rekax and play with poise?"

Optimistic...Yes, but because of the questions...it is
somewhat "guarded!"

Quoting an ACC Coach..."The only area where the ACC
has caught up to Florida State is at QB!" "If they had the
right kid back there, they'd still be winning 11 a year."

If our corners play effectively in man coverage...our
defense will be one of the nation's best. More speed
and strength than anyone.

Our wide-outs...especially Thorpe and Davis are burners.

Special Teams...No one has the likes of Washington,
Davis and Reid.

Tailbacks...Greg Jones, Leon Washington, Lorenzo
Booker and Willie Reid. (Reid will play wr some...too much
talent to just sit)

The anticipated and hoped for demise of Florida State is a
long way off.

In the midst of all of our sorrow and ridicule...let's never
forget that WE are the defending ACC Champs. Not all these
other chumps, that everyone boasts about in a hollow way.

Kickof is three weeks away...

Then we'll know

WOW! That's pretty harsh coming from another coach.
But judging by your questioning whether Rix will relax and play with poise, I'm guessing you feel there is a little truth there. Rix'll be fine.

That's just the stuff I was looking for, Paul, thanks! Good luck in '03!

Go Noles!!!

In fairness to Rix...

Florida State for over a decade had a routine for
preparing a QB...Redshirt, Back-Up as a RS Freshman
and Soph...then start in his fourth year as a RS Junior.

The trend was broken with Weinke...but he was
already poised and matured...but still made some
mistakes...

Rix was thrown into the fire as a RS Freshman...

We'll see in a few weeks. Pro Scouts are high on the
kid. They say he has all the tools. 'Course I have
all the tools in my garage...but don't know how to
work them all properly. Let's hope Rix isn't like
that.

Hey 10MAN! :D We need to replace some of the offensive linemen and also some wide receivers. But the way the Coaches rotate players, a lot of the young men already have playing time under their belts. We return most of the defense, the quarterback, and our GREAT running back who got hurt last year, Greg Jones.

Playing Colorado, Notre Dame, Florida and Miami for our OOC will be a GREAT challenge. But this team has to prove that the last 2 years were a fluke. :D

Yes, I saw where FSU has the 2nd toughest schedule in the country this year. No matter what happens, you gotta give the Noles credit for scheduling some tough challenges. My hat's off to y'all and good luck.

Go Noles!!!

Scheduling has alot to do with where you end up too. I would like to see Kansas State trade places with FSU in OOC scheduling.

FSU has Miami and Colorado @ home and Notre Dame, Florida on the road

K State has this TOUGH schedule, its first 5 games are all at home
California @ ArrowHead Stadium
Troy St
McNeese St
Massachussetts- Come on Now!!-Thats football??
Marshall... WOW!! Now thats a TOUGH OOC schedule
They have a 13 game schedule and ONLY play 4 teams on the road, 9 home games!! Un- friggin- believeable!!
No wonder they're ranked #5 in the pre season polls, and if Oklahoma, Ohio St., Miami or Texas lose, you could see a #1 ranked K State after week 5

I feel your pain. We, at Ole Miss, obviously have a tough SEC schedule every year, but we could at least schedule some more worthy OOC opponents than we traditionally do. Here is our OOC schedule for 2003, but it usually doesn't look much different any other year:

Memphis @ Memphis....bah!
La Monroe @ home........Wow!
Texas Tech @ home...ok, I can live with this one.
and mighty Arkansas State @ home.....Wow! Cmon!

I know how you feel. Playing patsies does absolutely NOTHING for your team, it only helps the little guys, win or lose. You beat a patsy, you've proved nothing. You lose to a patsy, you're the laughing stock of your conference. Lose-lose situation.

10 Man, after those oh so tough  5 home games for K State they have a bye week and then they are on the road at Texas which should be their first loss.
Dont be suprised if you see K State ranked at #1 in both offense and defense after the first 5 weeks either, thats down right pathetic.
Ole Miss has a better OOC than K State, UMASS?? Troy State?? McNeese St is pre season #1 in Div 1-AA, OH WOW!!
Good luck to you guys this year at Ole Miss. Can you guys make it 2 in a row over Florida?? I hope so, beat those gators....I mean uh Crocs on Oct 4th.
Is Manning gone now, or does he have another year left?

As for OOC Scheduling...the ACC plays as good an
OOC schedule as anybody...Actually Better.

Of the 36 OOC games...21 are against schools from
other BCS Leagues or Notre Dame.

Big 12 is the worst...only 15 games against other
BCS League schools and Notre Dame. And they
have 49 OOC games. (No wonder they have 3 in
the top 5)
SEC is next from the bottom...16 of 48 OOC games
against BCS schools (8 with the ACC)

Worst of the worst in the ACC...Maryland

They've replaced Wofford with the Citadel and they
are so bent on playing patsies...that their two games
against MAC schools...Northern Ill and Eastern Mich...

Are AWAY games...GEEZ, anything for a win...huh?

Yeah, Maryland's schedule is pretty pathetic. Kansas St is notorious for having a cakewalk OOC schedule. I think last year was the first year they played a good team OOC. I can't remember who it was though.

As for FSU, if your QB gets it together, you guys will have a very nice season. You have a good looking stable of RB's. And you guys sweat speed.

Thank you, we're gonna need all the luck we can muster, especially in the bruising SEC. 2 in a row? Who knows? It is certainly possible, especially since Superior is 2 years removed. UF will be looking for a little payback on us Rebs in G'ville, but UF probably has the weakest team they've had since Superior first arrived there, so it's very possible. The only thing that worries me, is the intimidating Swamp, not so much the Gators, just the environment. I hope our players can shake that off and just go play good hard-nosed defense like we did last year. We do that, we got a great shot. We succumb to the atmosphere, and we are doomed.

And Eli Manning is entering his Senior season at Ole Miss this year. So, we need to make it happen now!

Good luck to KSU, as well!! Sorry, I haven't had any conversations with you up until now. I'm assuming you are a KState fan? If so, then good luck to yours!!!

Don't be laughing at Troy State. I realize they're not Miami or Colorado, but that's the school my son attends and I've seen them play. Nothing to laugh at, I guarantee you. They're not afraid to play Nebraska, or Miami and have played both since joining the big boys division. :D

10 MAN Im a Nole and Cane fan...hard to believe huh? Noles first though. Cant wait until 2004 when they come to the ACC!! I think Pittsburgh wins the Big East though this year. Nov 29th @ Pitt, last game ot the season and COLD!!!!
I wont post on the Canes message board here because they arent even in the ACC yet.

MsNole, nothing against your son at all. Im talking strictly football.
I have a couple of good friends that live in Ocala and in Tampa and both graduated from the University of Florida, one of them now has a sister in her third year at UF, but I hope UF loses every game they play too.

I was pointing out the FACT that the #5 team in the country has an all out EASY road to the title game.
13 games with only 4 road games??? 9 home games, and the first 5 are at home, thats crazy!!
FWIW MsNole, I hope one of those 5 teams K State plays beats them, if that happens they will drop in the top 25 like the mercury in January

Wow! That is a very odd combo.

My apologies, though, because I thought by the way you were talking about KSU's schedule, that you were a KSU fan being a bit facetious about your OOC schedule, the same way I am about Ole Miss'.
It's all good, though. Good luck to your 'Noles, and umm, the Canes too. 03-wink

NCAAFBFAN (we need to get you a nickname cause that's a long name you have :D )

Do you remember your FSU football history? In 1947 we played Troy State and LOST 36-6 at home! The next 4 years we beat them and haven't played them since.

Remember when FSU went on the road in the 80s and played the following teams, Nebraska, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Pitt and LSU? Pitt beat us but we won the other games. Those fans thought surely their team would beat FSU. After all, who was FSU but a team that almost gave up football cause they were really bad!

Yeah KState is definitely playing a very soft schedule. And surely one of those teams they are playing can knock them off.

I, too, have been friends with (gulp) gator fans. We learned never to discuss football with each other out of respect.

History of College Football, I love every minute of it MsNole, not just with the Noles but with every team.
I love all the aspects of college football, from the recruting, to week 1 all the way to the bowl games and The National Championship.
The recruiting is my favorite, and believe it or not The Heisman is my least favorite, or as I say the HYPESman.
Its lost its meaning over the last few years, but I do enjoy the other awards they hand out from the Maxwell, Bednarick, Thorpe, Groza, etc.
I remember the 80's very well thats how the Noles got to the top by playing the tough teams on the road, it also helps that back then FSU was an independent team.
Not anything like SOME team in the BIG 12 that practically has their own schedule gift wrapped

You are right on, there, NCAAFBFAN. Right on. Ever since Peyton Manning lost it to Charles Woodson, a DB, it's lost its luster to me. And probably even before that really.
I call it the "Heist-man", while you call it the "Hypes-man", but we apparently share the same views on it.

Too bad too because it used to be a very prestigous award, the biggest.

They restored my faith in it somewhat last year, by awarding Carson Palmer, although he may not have even been the most deserving either, but it still isn't what it used to be.
