[quote]Boulware set for great Winslow chase
By Steve Ellis
DEMOCRAT STAFF WRITER
One of the key matchups Saturday will find Florida State linebacker Michael Boulware working against Miami tight end Kellen Winslow in pass situations. Winslow's fourth-down catch against West Virginia set up Miami's last-minute game-winning field goal Thursday night, but opposing defenses have made it tough for Winslow this season. Winslow has caught 25 passes for 242 yards and a touchdown.
"He's been talking a lot and people are really keying on him and making sure they try to stop him," Boulware said. "For me personally, that's going to be one of my goals is to try to stop him. I know I'm probably going to need some help because he's an exceptional athlete. If you give him one step, he can capitalize on it and take it all the way. So I'll start with basics - try to get my footwork right.
"My weight's down (to 225-228), and I can run all day. I feel really good."
Don't pass this over
A year ago, the Hurricanes dared FSU to beat them on the ground. The Seminoles liked the way they matched up, especially with a veteran offensive line and Greg Jones, and took Miami's challenge. FSU rushed for 296 yards in a 28-27 loss.
But FSU offensive coordinator Jeff Bowden also learned that FSU must also be effective in the air. He admits FSU's failure to turn to the pass late in the game was costly.
"The two most pivotal drives of the ballgame last year were the second- and third-from-the-last drives where they had to stop our running game, or we may run out the clock on them had we got a first down," Bowden said. "They resorted to some heavy blitz in there. It was a case in hindsight - you wish you had thrown it at those moments."
FSU completed just eight passes against the Hurricanes in 2002 as Miami's physical play was a factor against Seminole receivers. And while this year's receivers are mostly lean, Bowden likes their chances to make something happen.
"They held a good bit last year," Bowden said of Miami's secondary. "They grabbed a good bit last year. I expect that against a team that presses but you also expect officials to throw a flag. ... It makes it extremely hard but we got behind them, too.
"I think overall (FSU has a) better corps (than a year ago). I think they are a little faster. I think overall they're taller. At least they'll match up height-wise with these guys because they are 5-11, 6-foot, 6-1 corners. I think it's a better matchup. We're catching the ball better."

'Noles will play with 5 DB's much of the game...
But tje nickel back won't be a corner. They'll
use Carter, Osei or Ward...especially Carter...
to man up on Winslow. Carter is a safety,
who can play like a LB, if they attempt to run.
We guard Winslow with a LB, and we'll have some
major problems.
You never compare scores...i.e. The transitive
axiom thing...However, Gaytors have shown
their real colors, and they pushed Miami around.
West Va was routed by Maryland and Wisconsin
and beaten by Cincinnati. "Canes ain't the 'Canes
of Old!
'Noles 17-14 at half...and 34-17 at games end.

Ga Tech was killed by Clemson, beaten by BYU, and barely won against Vanderbilt. But they almost beat FSU. So what is your point again?

The point in logic...
We are talking about MIAMI (5 National Titles in
20 years)
Not Tech...
Miami doesn't struggle for three quarters against
East Carolina! Doesn't need a FG at the buzzer
to beat WVU. The Miami we know, doesn't have
to come from 23 down to beat a Gaytor Team..
that will be lucky to win 5 games this year.
This ain't the Miami team of old...
Everybody has an "off" game. Miami has played
in a bunch of them...
Tech, except in a few instances, has always played
Florida State tough. This year was no exception.
The MIAMI we are used to playing, doesn't
dilly-dally with other teams...they crush them.
But because they are MIAMI...they will be tough
for us.
But...they ain't like the MIAMI team's of old.
And for Florida State...That's good news.
