How about the Krytal Palace on S. 3rd. Man that place just scares me thinking about going in.

It's Crystal Palace, and church groups go there still. You can go in one of those two nights...
When I was a kid, Crystal Palace was the closet thing to a nightclub I ever got to.

I remember Skateland on Stage Road in Raleigh. I made out with Pam Sentman there in 8th grade. Got rejected on the attempted breast-grope though. Sarah Buntin busted us.

I'm sorry, I don't understand what it says about the area. Care to elaborate?
As always, I was misunderstood. I was speaking of the general decline of the area. I'm a Kingsbury grad....I remember when the Pizza Hut on Summer...was a Pizza Hut...and not a used car lot (yet to figure that one out)
I'm a huge fan of the area....I was just speaking to the irony that "several people" were evacutated from what used to be one of the most popular theatres in town.
To be fair, it was a Monday night. I live in the neighborhood around White Station Middle and I eat at Jacks and Pancho's and I occasionaly shop at the Piggly Wiggly if I am only getting a couple things, and I go to the meat market a little bit further down summer, the area is not that bad yet. But you wont catch me at a movie at the Palace theatre after dark.
Cool, me too over on Mineral. Both our kids went to Richland and WSMS.
I like that neighborhood a lot.
And btw - they tore down the Pizza Hut building. Not sure if the mexican car dealer is rebuilding or if that was the owners way of eviction.
Go Tigers!!
I think our backyards may back up to each other, do you have a garage band?
lol - yep. If thats the case its a small world.
Sorry about the condition of my backyard, I've got a 4 month old baby and have had no time/energy to keep the leaves cleaned up lately.
Man, we're all neighbors here. I'm on the second street south from Richland Elem, appropriately named Southwood. Both my kids went to Richland. My daughter is in WS High and my son is at WS Middle now.

Summer Ave Coletta's. All time favorite restaurant. Memories. How long ago did it burn down now?
Funny story, Coletta's used to have open burning candles on the tables and one night my date leaned over the table to look at a ring on my hand and the candle caught her hair on fire. It was minor and quickly put out with no injury but it was funny. I loved that place.

You must be old. LOL When did East End close. I used to skate and swim there as a kid. My brother was a lifeguard at the pool.
I also skated at Rainbow.
East End on Mt. Moriah was open as late as the early 90s last I remember. Heck, it might still be open.
I think it was just a few years back that they tore the Mt. Moriah Putt-Putt down...it was closed for a few years before, but I remember playing video games there....and anyone remember "Super Saturday" at the Summer Putt-Putt when $20 bucks got you:
Unlimited Putt-Putt
40 gameroom tokens
Coke
Hot Dog
1 go-kart ride OR 5 baseball tokens.
That was living my friends.
Mt. Moriah Putt-Putt's Super Saturday was a better deal:
Cost--$2
Included--Unlimited Putt-Putt, Unlimited Video Games, Coke, Hot Dog from 10:00am--2:00pm

TruTigerrrr2 Wrote:tigergreen Wrote:madtiger Wrote:Was the name of the place under Kroger in Poplar Plaza Big Daddy's? I only remember going in there once or twice...
yes, that was big daddy's. i think we had a bowling party or something like that in 7th grade (1986-87). i don't think it lasted too much longer after that.
Big Daddy's was the bomb! Who really cared about the bowling, etc. It was the only place like that that you could bring your own cooler full of beer! That's what you call Cosmic Bowling... without the black lights and music!
The first time I ever went into Big Daddy's my friend informed me we can take in coolers. We go walking in with this cooler of beer discussing how awkward it was and how people were going to look at us like we were crazy. That, of course, was until we got inside and saw a line of coolers down each and every lane; we just started laughing our asses off. I think it actually caught fire around 96 or 97. The last time I was in there was 94.

RE: Skateland Burns!
Anyone remember Corondolet on Summer Ave?(changed to Central Hardware). There used to be a Minute Man Hamburger joint on the corner there at Waring and Summer. Next to that was Summer Center. Friday nights were crazy on that part of Summer Ave. Mostly Kingsbury and Treadwell people just cruisin. Good memories but unfortunately not that way now days.

When I left Memphis five years ago, that old Central Hardware site had been converted to a 24-hr AutoZone superstore.
