MEDIA WATCH- April 11
On this, the last day of the football vote- WFHG has not had one story about it.

They have, however, read a press release from the Johnson City Police Department that Little Chicago's Finest have caught a guy who forged a couple of checks two years ago.

So it's nice to know they have a good grip on what is going on in the area there at WFHG.

ITEM TWO

I am listening to the Sports Monster and they are closing the show up.

They are announcing Joe Avento will be on tomorrow. He's one of the guys who covers the Bucs for the Johnson City Press.

And as they wrap the show up, they say that Avento will talk about The Masters.

And that ETSU's European Golf team will have some sort of tournament they'll be in.

And then there will be the Braves on The Monster and ETSU baseball will play Furman on WJCW.

Oh, and by the way, tomorrow we'll have the results of the football vote!

Forgive me, but on this day, when you are the ETSU flagship, DON'T YOU SPEAK OF THIS AND SPEAK OF IT HEAVILY?

Instead, I heard discussion of whether or not Hank Aaron should be criticized for saying he won't be on hand if and when Barry Bonds hits 756.

And we're not preparing to speak to Avento about the Football Vote. We're preparing to speak to him about a four-day-old golf tournament.

As a sportscaster, one of the things that is so appealing about the job is you have influence. You can actually push people to vote for (or against) this.

WXSM has an opportunity to have incredible influence on the market. This vote affects them directly. A great deal of the viability of the station lies in this vote.

Instead, WXSM talked about Hank Aaron's aloofness and had on Lori Worley- the Bristol Motor Speedway flack- as a guest.

Not a former ETSU football figure. Not someone from the football foundation. Not even one of the guys who have written editorials on why NOT to bring back the sport (which would be great radio).

They chuckled with Lori Worley about Kenny Hawkins getting up early and flirting with stewardesses.

Either the aforementioned broadcast entities are CLUELESS or ETSU has called up The Sports Monster and asked them not to play up the vote for whatever reason.

This putting the Bucs on the backburner brings back memories of ETSU having to play second fiddle to Science Hill in the mid-90s on WJCW.

We've talked about bringing back ETSU football for four years on here. They can't talk about it for four hours?
