D-1 Basketball Split
I throw this question out to the posters as it is something that I have often thought about over the last couple of years during mens basketball. What is the probability of the NCAA creating a D-1AA in mens basketball like they have for football?

It seems that every year there are more and more D-1 programs coming out of the wood work. I think there are something like 325 teams now and growing. I would think that the so called mid majors or non BCS schools would make up the D-1AA division. Thoughts?

Well every now and then you get a Xavier (who... omg, what a game) or a Butler who can hang with the big boys. Why not let them have a shot at the title? D-IAA just seems like cannon fodder for the larger conferences which sometimes it is. Football there's the division because of money and scholarships. That's not the case in basketball. Private schools shouldn't be held out because of enrollment so there's no real basis to split a "Mid-major" team with a "BCS Conference" team.

I can't believe the 10 year thing even though I've heard about it before, that's going to absolutely lock in the D-I. I think about our D-I phase and I could see myself attending games when we started our probation period. I definately could not say the same thing if I had to wait 10 years. Plus it's absolutely going to demolish any momentum a D-II school has going to D-I with recruiting being the #1 hit.

Probation is a stupid deterrent. Make the schools qualify as a full D-I program while still being D-II and make the reqs better. Also, I'm a favor the Italian soccer league, the bottom teams get sent down and the top teams get sent up. It keeps it competitive top down. Base it on a 4 year running average so one bad season doesn't ruin a school but also make it earn a top tier spot
