No offense to you guys that are trying to grow, but three, with a chance at FOUR teams from the D-2 ranks if SC Upstate joins? Pretty soon we'll be talking about Carson Newman and Tusculum being in the conference. Atleast ETSU fans couldn't ***** and moan about travel then, TC and C-N are within an hour of Johnson City. HA!
Seriously though, the conference needs to recruit a D-1 school, I don't care if it is a crappy team (Longwood, UNC-A), there can only be so many on probation.

Great Move for Our League
FGC will undoubtedly field a very strong baseball roster within three years...

The next new team had better be D1, it shouldn't even be an option to grab another D2 right now.

FGCU already has a strong basketball roster, have been ranked many times in D-2 had its first win against a D-1 (FIU) two years ago (played very few D-1 schools) can already hang with and beat most Peach Belt teams, including some teams that are currently in the A-Sun (3-0 all-time versus UNF). They already do field excellent ranked baseball teams and have a top-notch local recruiting base. FGCU will be an excellent, and competitive, addition to this conference.

By historic standards, the Division I-AAA conference is young at the age of 28, but with the expected announcement next week that the University of South Carolina-Upstate will become the 12th school to join, the A-Sun is following the example of some of its older and bigger brethren like the Atlantic Coast Conference and the Southeastern Conference.

That was a funny editorial. Who wrote that, the A-Sun media relations dept?
BTW, Campbell is getting ready to start football, and aren't several other schools looking at it?

I would like an explanation of what this statement means:

Quote:The Eagles will begin their re-classification with the 2007-08 season, playing full regular season conference schedules

Will they still be DII for 06-07? Will they be DI but not playing conference games? I've never heard of anything like this.

yea that is weird. it makes it sound like they'll still be eligible for divison 2 championships but at the same time they will be playing some divison 1 schools. maybe its a typo.

Ok then, here's why I'm confused: The press releases say we are now a 12-team league. If they aren't playing conference games, how are they a conference member. Are we still an 11-team league for 06-07?

OK thanks for clearing it up. I see the Upstate release said the same thing. So I guess we are a 10-team league in 06-07, and only an 8-team championship eligible league.

ya we are just a 10 teamer next year, but you know the A-Sun is going to say we are a 12 teamer because it looks better even though they won't play for another year.....all the schedules for next year are done already, so it would be too late to add these new schools to a conference slate
