Mercer Sports Awards press release
MACON, Ga.- Del Olaoye and Katie Rosentreter were presented top honors Thursday night during Mercer's annual Athletics Awards banquet.

Olaoye, a member of the men's soccer team, was presented the Charles Morgan Senior Male Athlete-of-The-Year award. Rosentreter, who is leading the softball team as they battle for the Atlantic Sun conference regular-season title, earned the Virginia "Cowboy" Williamson Senior Female Athlete-of-The-Year award.

A native of Stafford, England, Olaoye closed out his stellar career at Mercer ranking third on the school's all-time scoring list with 73 points, and ranks third on the Bears' all-time goals list with 31. In his rookie season he was named A-Sun Freshman-of-the-Year while also being selected first team all-conference. Olaoye led the league in goals per game (0.79) and points per game (1.71) as a freshman and earned A-Sun Player of the Week honors once. He was a second team all-conference selection as a sophomore and earned first-team All-Atlantic Sun honors as a junior. The 5-foot-10 inch forward rounded out his senior campaign as a selection to the NSCAA/adidas All-South Region third team. Olaoye was named to the 2005 Atlantic Sun All-tournament team and also was named to the all-conference second team, becoming the first Mercer men's soccer player to have earned the honor all four years of their career.

A senior from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Rosentreter was selected to the 2006 Preseason All-Atlantic Sun team. She leads the team in wins (14) and strikeouts (207) this season, and during her four-year career, she ranks first in career ERA (1.55), opponent batting average (.207), wins (61), shutouts (18) and strikeouts (684). As a sophomore, Rosentreter was named first team All-Atlantic Sun in 2004 and earned a spot on the 2004 All-Tournament team while being named A-Sun Pitcher of the Week three times. She posted a school record 1.19 ERA, finished second in the conference in strikeouts and became only the second Bear to post 20 wins in a season. Last season Rosentreter earned preseason All-Atlantic Sun team accolades and was named A-Sun Pitcher of the Week once.

In addition to Athlete-of-The-Year awards, a number of other honors were presented during Thursday's ceremony.

Senior pitcher Hunter Abercrombie won the Doyle E. Watson Baseball Leadership Award. He is second on the team with four wins in 13 appearances. Abercrombie has been instrumental in Mercer's success on the diamond this year, as the Bears have already equaled last season's total number of conference wins and are tied for the top spot in the A-Sun.

Brandan Price of the men's golf team was presented the Dee Horowitz Sportsmanship Award, while the Henry "Trot" Ware Academic award for the men's basketball player with the highest GPA went to senior forward Will Emerson. Price excelled on the golf course this season, leading the Bears with a 73.3 scoring average. His best finish came at the season-opening Reynolds Plantation Gulf Coast Classic where he tied for 10th. He carded his low round of the year twice, 70, first during the second round of the Gulf Coast Classic and again in the second round of the Cardinal Intercollegiate.

Emerson was the only player to start all 28 games last season, leading the team in rebounding and was third in scoring, averaging 11.7 points. In 2006 Emerson was named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America men's team for the second consecutive year. Last season he became the first men's Division I college basketball player from the state of Georgia named to an academic all-America team since Georgia Tech's Matt Harpring in 1998. A biology major from St. Mary's Ga., he was one of only two players named to the Academic All-America teams with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.

The Presidential Scholastic Award for the team with the highest grade-point average was presented to the women's tennis team for the second consecutive year, which posted a 3.343 GPA during the fall semester.
