With the elimination of the 5/8 rule, major conference teams will be able to reload quicker. It will also keep the mid major teams from getting the kids that could develop later who were unable to be scooped up by the big boys with the 5/8 rule. 5/8 was the best thing to ever happen to mid majors. Additionally, with discussions of expanding basketball rosters, it will only get tougher for the little guy.

It definately will hurt the mid-majors. It won't really affect the low-major programs like the ASun/SoCon/BigSouth/etc.

I'm not so sure.

Here's why- it's my opinion that college basketball is a wreck. Not just ETSU but all of it.

The regular season means nothing

The top talent leaves as soon as they can, if they come at all

It is embracing the left-friendly cultures that have made the NBA unwatchable

Not to mention just the problems with the sport of basketball- in that it is the same thing- back and forth- 200 times a game and that after a week all the highlights look the same. How many slam dunks can you watch, anyway?

Okay, so you can take that for what it's worth.

But what I keep hearing and seeing is that players want to play NOW. I think that was one of the things with Tim Smith. All of his AAU teammates went on to major conferences and Smith had the athletic ability to go there too, but he did not have the discipline to sit for a few years- learn fundamentals- and become a complete player.

He only knew he had some skills and yes, they were good enough to play as a freshman, but at what cost?

This is basketball. There is no teammwork anymore. It's all about "ME" and trying to hog all the attention.

And you know, the players at George Mason will get a lot more attention right now than whoever the No. 8 guy on the Georgia Tech roster is.

Make the rosters 20 players. Make them 100. It will just create more opportunities for student managers- not real stars.

There are still plenty of advantages the big conferences will have, but I think the expansion of rosters impact- if it happens- will be minimal.
