GREAT VICTORY BUCS FANS!!!
This was a great victory for your school and for our league.

ETSU is definitely living up to its commitment to improve baseball and it has not gone unnoticed by ASUN fans.

I know a bit about budgets- but how about The Press not sending a writer down there to Knoxville?

They can do it for football and basketball- but they can't do it for baseball?

You know, I know a bit as to what goes on in these papers- but the Press really has given ETSU a free pass on the demise of the athletic program. I can handle a disagreement over whether or not Tim Smith was a help or hinderance to the basketball team- for instance- but this is a paper that has-

A- Not hesitated to call for the heads of former UT basketball coaches.

B- Laughingly and embarassingly chastised Ed DeChellis for essentially the same reason Rod Shaw does- he wasn't George Pitts (Gee, a guy who made it to the Big Ten in his forties or Division II at 60- I can't figure out who I want to coach my team) - when Demetric Stevens went to Appalachian State instead of ETSU.

And proceded to not even play a MINUTE for the Mountaineers!

C- Rightly or wrongly- got into the biggest p1ssing contest with the mayor of Johnson City anyone ever saw played out in print.

So why can't they come right out and bash David Mullins- instead of letting him get away with his agenda?

The only reason has to be they SUPPORT his agenda for the most part.

Which- okay- that means that they therefore must believe in ETSU baseball- because that is the one semi-high profile sport that figures to come out ahead with this move.

So why no writer in Knoxville?

I don't think they can claim budget when they send Trey down there to cover UT football and basketball there all the time.

Or why can't they just make a deal and pick up the game story from the News-Sentinel? Or hire a stringer?

You have ETSU's biggest win since joining the A-Sun, and they wrote the game story off the box score.

Sad.

Pitt,
I think this speaks volumes to the A-Sun baseball fans and is a classic example of the lack of support in this area for college baseball (ut/ETSU or NAIA).

Add to that the fact that the story didn't even make the website for the Kingsport paper, and you had to search hard to find the internet story about the game in the Bristol paper.

There just isn't a market in TRI for college baseball. Maybe this will help A-Sun fans understand why ETSU folks are upset about the A-Sun, heck you can't even find a baseball story about ut in the TRI.

I wasn't really looking for additional articles, I was just pointing out that TRI isn't interested in college baseball. When you have to go to a specialty website to find info, nuff said.

Again, there just isn't support among the Joe 6-paks for college baseball in TRI.

it's only as important as the media makes it out to be. I can GUARANTEE YOU that the Kingsport, JC, Elizabethton, Greeneville and Bristol papers will be there, along with Tricitiessports.com (Oh joy), as well as both TV stations.
How they cover the game will depend on whether or not ETSU can get the brooms out this weekend with Belmont.
These guys aren't too bad, definitely worth watching.

Home games, sure.

And I'm not that upset that they can't budget a trip to Florida.

But what I'm saying is that Knoxville is such a common road trip it's inexcusable not to go out there.

Incidentily, I also feel that the local papers are remiss when they don't send a writer out to cover a JC Cardinals game on the road, especially when most road trips are in places like Kingsport, Bristol, Elizabethton, etc.

Princeton and Martinsville I can see. Elizabethton I cannot.

It's just the way this area is... Example: The Bristol paper can send a high school graduate to cover his old high school baseball team EVERY GAME they play, including two trips to Wythe County, Virginia from Bristol (About an hour or so drive), yet can't drive 30 minutes to cover ETSU baseball, whom has now beaten two ranked teams this season. I guess it comes down to they just try to sell newspapers, but sports wise after the final four the only thing this area truly cares about is NASCAR, I just don't get why they don't try to push college and minor league baseball more.
