I tried this a while back, guess I'll try again: since CMU is playing IU in football, anyone care to state their opinions on this game. I personally think it should be close. CMU returns more experience on both sides of the ball and should be significantly improved. IU is a little bit of a mystery with DiNardo calling the shots. Comments from someone other than Lauren (no offense <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> , just looking for other opinions).

No worries, no comments from me -- lol, i wouldn't have a clue what to say anyway. For me, football has always been #2 to b-ball! (lol, go figure, eh?)

I'll keep bringing this up. Can't say you'll get much response ... but, we'll see!

I'll see if I can provide some Hoosier insight to your football question.

Indiana obviously has a lot of questions coming into the season. Who will our go to guy on the offensive side of the ball? How will Jones/Hamdan be able to fill the shoes of ARE? What RB fills the void of Levron Williams' graduation? What type of attitude will Coach DiNardo bring to the team?

And that's just a little bit of the questions that we face.

Tommy Jones is more than likely our starting QB. He has the capability of throwing the long ball but he was hampered in spring football due to the surgery he had on his shoulder. He should be 100% by season's start.

Our offense won't be the option rush like you saw with ARE at the helm. DiNardo is installing the Midwest Coast Offense. I can't tell you how effective it's been since it hasn't been used here so I can't comment on it. Looks like the WR's will be used A LOT more than Hoosier football fans are used to.

Running backs include Brian Lewis, Yamar Washington, and Courtney Clency.

Offensive line should be the Hoosiers best aspect on either side of the ball. Four starters return on this unit which only gave up 9 sacks all year long. They're big, tough, mean, and Phil Steele listed them as one of the top OLs in the country.

Wide Receivers, Johnson Jr, and Roby.

Defense should be a lot improved this year. Last season featured a solid defensive unit as the season progressed. If the defense doesn't come through we lose to Michigan State and Purdue, simple as that. The heart and soul of the defensive team is gone in Rasmussen. Four players return from the defensive line and all had some gameday experience last season.

There's a lot of short players, with average talent. They aren't show stopping by any means, and they aren't the most talented either. But they should be better.

Special teams, were terrible last year. They cost us a bowl game. They can only improve and I hope they can make a FG and a PAT for once!!

Thanks, Matt! CMU in summary:

Offense:

OL - returns three starters and experienced backups from a good unit that surrendered only 18 sacks all season and helped power a top-25 rushing attack.

RB - Loaded with hoss Terrance Jackson (6', 230lb.) who broke 1,000 yards in just ten games. Reserves Keenan Lawhorne and Robbie Mixon are versatile and starting-quality.

QB - There are questions, but experience should improve this unit. Last year's best starter, Derek Vickers, had an edge in the spring. If he's even slightly improved, we'll keep defenses honest.

WR - A weakness last season, this should be a strength this year, due to experience and depth.

TE - Tory Humphery made TSN Frosh All-American. His fellow soph. reserve is solid.

Defense:

DL - More experience, size, and depth than we've had in a while should mean good things.

LB - Our ILBs could be impressive this season. Jovan Clarke was a monster in the middle last season, and Darvin Lewis is very athletic. If recovered from last season's third-game knee injury, teams won't know who to block. Great depth here, also.

Secondary - A potential Achilles heel, but some interesting moves have us hopeful. FS James King is a converted LB who blocked 8 kicks last season (four vs. MSU). His quickness and intensity can only help this unit. Dante McKnight is a burner converted from WR, and he impressed in the spring.

Special Teams = mixed bag. - Punters beware: James King feasted on 7 attempts last season. Punting is solid, at just over 40 yards/kick, but coverage teams need to improve, and the competition at kicker is still open, with little (if any) experience. The return game should be in better hands -- literally -- with speedster Derek Holoman taking over.
